first post 2003 FX4 help please

ok i have a 2003 FX4 now i have 2 questions, one is when its ideling my truck shakes a bit i have went to 2 differnet dealerships and they tell me the 03's do this, is this true? also i was going to put some exhaust on my truck and i went to the muffler shop and he said until i started to mod it he would just take the muffler out and run a strait pipe through it for 20 dollars just to make it sound better, should i do this?

thanks,

Hi New Guy, welcome to the board.
You will notice on the forum index that there is a specific forum for exhausts.
If you have a technical question, you may get a quicker and better answer by posting there.
General Discussion is where we talk about other crap

The 5.4 does seem to shake a bit at idle.
Ask the 2 dealerships to demonstrate another truck to you.
If they are the same as your truck, then it's normal.

As for the muffler, that's up to you. What sounds better to you might be horrible to somebody else.
Also, you may be breaking the law if your truck is too loud.

Don't expect the truck to run so well if you start to hack pieces out of the exhaust though.

Welcome to the sight

I would check your state laws before I went to chopping up my exhaust. In many states it is illegal to run straight pipes. Even if it's OK in Michigan, is that your permanent home? I'd think ahead if there is the possibility of moving. Also, like EA says, it would most likely affect the performance of your truck. Do a search in the exhaust forums and see what others have said about straight pipes.

Hope you enjoy your truck!!

I know a guy who cut out his exhaust and it sounds like crap! It back fires and just does not sound good. I strongly urge you not to cut your exhaust.
