Lets Settle This
Lets Settle This
First off id like to say that i have no true opinion about trucks. Full size big 3 trucks are build to handle work. Plane and simple. Id like to say that i love chevys. The z71s i thought were awsome. I love the simplicity of the chevy. Also when the new ford trucks came out in 97 i wasn't impressed. I thought the body lines were kinda girly. Now before you shread me here me out. A year ago i bought my first ford truck. I was like its a good deal so ill get it. Wow i was so impressed with the handling, and the acceleration. So much power id fishtail burinng out. Driveing my motherinlaws 98 chev tahoe with 60 thousand miles i was stunned. All i could hear was things clattering about. Loose connections, rattles , squeeks. So i jump into my truck 130 thousand , and believe me from what i heard the previous owner of my truck was no little old lady. It was a truck he beat in like a stepchild. Nothing, quiet, comfy tried and true. I dont honestly believe in a right or wrong when it comes to trucks. But i dont notice the death rattle in my pickup and i paid thousands less then she did for her tahoe. Im not 100% impressed with the 5.4 engine. Yea like i said its powerful. But the coil on plug deal just pi**es me off. There so expensive and so hard to get to. Maybe im just getting to tired of ripin my stuff apart and i want it easier and cheeper like my montecarlos were. It is just my 2 cents but anything else anyone wants to say id love to hear. I love chevys but i think the design department has taken a nap. I cant say that ill not buy a chevy truck. But i do love my ford. I cant tell you guys how many hoots and hollars i get from just drivin my truck. I guess theres sumptin women really like about a pickup man.

So you're saying you have false opinions?
If you're saying you don't have an opinion (true or otherwise) then, for someone who doesn't have an opinion, you sure wrote a lot.

Girly? Why I'm offended! Here's my Lightning. I don't think it's "girly" in the least!
I am totally offended! Why I resemble ... I mean, resent that remark!

LONG POST
Ben,
I don't think anything will really get settled, but here's my $.02 worth.
I had an 88 Chevy 4X4 back in 1994. It was the most kick butt truck I had owned up until that point. Compared to the Fords of that day, it was untouchable for comfort, handling, and power withing same engine class. It had a 305, 5 speed, and it made me a believer in the IFS. I also had an 85 Bronco. I loved it just as much, but the Chevy was light years ahead, with the exception of the stupid heater controls. That truck was drove into the ground.
Next, I had a couple of company trucks that were both Dodges. They never broke down on me, and never got me any compliments either. They were very adequate, but the mileage, or lack of it, was horrendous.
Next came a 1995 Powerstroke Ford. It was, and still is to this day, the best truck I have ever known, or driven. I couldn't see myself ever getting rid of it. I drove it for 196,000 miles, and it NEVER saw the inside of a shop for mechanical reasons. I put a new set of glow plugs, and a vacuum pump on, and that was it for engine work other than filters and oil. It got 18-20 MPG on the road, and it never coughed pulling very heavy loads. At 196,000 miles though, it was starting to have a little blow by, and when the next set of glow plugs was needed, I decided to look for another.
I drove the Chevy. I have a GMC company truck that I only use for long company related trips. The truth is, I drove the new Chevy to shut my co-workers up because the are all bow-tie guys. The Chevy that is produced at this time is just not up to the same level as a Ford Truck is right now. Truthfully, I think that if you take the same care of one as you do the other, they will both be very good vehicles for a very long time. But, my family has always bled Ford Blue, and I have had 10 different Fords since I started driving, and 3 Chevy's, and I just prefer the Fords. When you stack the new Chevy's against the new Fords, There really is no comparison. The Chevy's are low grade plastic feeling interior, lighter and not as sure footed feeling as the new Fords are. The Chevy's are quicker off the line, but are still governed at 100. I'm sure that they will change their body styles and interiors soon to compete with Ford, but really, if both trucks were the same quality through and through, most people will go with their favorite company overall. Mine is Ford. I'll buy the Ford first, Chevy second, and walk before I buy a Dodge.
Most of the people that are so hard lined to one side or the other come from Chevy and Ford only families, and are carrying on the tradition. My family has always been Fords. There have been more Mustangs in my family then there have been relatives to drive them at some points. One of my Uncle's raced for Ford back in the late 60's, and early 70's. Before the race track in Castle Rock, Colorado closed down, he held every record in his class racing a 1969 Mach 1 with factory sponsored 351 Windsors. He was my childhood hero, along with many other cousins, and we all have had 69 Machs. I still have one I'm restoring now. But that's why I like Fords so much. Growing up in that environment slants your opinion, even against reason sometimes.
I love my truck though. Maybe too much. I have noticed that I spend way too much time on this board talking about it. Come on Spring time. There's Bass to catch!
