shipping wheels / tires
Can someone tell me the best company to use for shipping wheels / tires?
Guy just checked UPS today and got a price of $78/tire&wheel combo. Granted these are big and somewhat heavy but dang!
This is CA to TX
Surely we can do better.
(20"x 9"wheels and 275/R45/20 tires, an 85lb. combo)
box has to be about 30"x 30"x 11"
HELP!

I think the only three your gonna be able to run for that are DHL FedEx and UPS, shipping is hard because if it isn't one of those major 3 your talking about having to go into a private shipper and that would be alot more unless you had connections.
You could try contacting an airline and inquire about their cargo prices. I don't know if it would be any cheaper and you won't get door to door service with them, whoever's on the receiving end would have to pick them up at the air cargo facility. I've shipped a few things through Alaska Airlines freight, it's probably more expensive than UPS but UPS doesn't offer ground service in Alaska, so for us freight is actually cheaper.
BTW, is the price quote you got from UPS directly or from a shipping company like The UPS Store or someplace like that? If you go through a shipping store they add a percentage onto the cost for their services.
