false advertisement pi$$es me off!

The other day when I posted about how I was going to sell the L and get a Vette I happened to notice an add to the left of the threads (these are Google adds and this is not Steve's fault in any way). It said "new Corvettes below invoice". Since I had already done my due diligence I doubted I could but a 05 Vette for invoice price much less BELOW INVOICE but I clicked on the link and sent them my info (it was Maxie Price Chevy). After not hearing from them for a few days I figured it was a scam and I sent Steve an e-mail about it. He told me these were adds Google puts on and to let him know if I never heard back (or if they would not really sell below invoice) so he could contact Google and let them know about it. Yesterday I get a call from a salesman (his name is Steve) from Maxie Price telling me I did not have to wait until May to get the car I want (I had told them in the e-mail I sent from the link on F150online that I had a car on order at $1500.00 over invoice but if they were selling below invoice I was ready to buy). He says he can have the car I want in 28 days. Then he drops the bomb.........but I can't get near the deal you have already made! I said I thought you sold below invoice? He acts like he does not hear me and never answers the question. Here is a link where you will see a link to the Maxie Price web site where they say they sell new corvettes at BELOW invoice! How do they get away with this kind of crap?

Actually I've heard MaxiePrice is pretty good. They are a supporting vender at corvetteforum.com, and I know they have sold a lot of Corevttes over there (of course not as many as Kerbeck).

I will contact Google and let them know that I am blocking that particular ad. It may take a few days to take hold.

I do have to add that there is a subtle difference between their ad and the other ads on that page you sent. Their ad does not say "2005" so it may be possible that they can sell C5's at below invoice...just a thought...bit misleading nevertheless given the known demand for C6's right now.

If people want a vehicle bad enough, they will, and have paid way over invoice.
Remember when the Gen 2's first came out? Many dealers where asking and getting 5 grand over invoice.

But back to your orginal question......

Corvette Vicky @ Kerbeck

Before I did the motor in my truck, I was considering my options and talked to her. Still might end up in a new Vette with this mid-life crisis going like it is

Steve,

You may be correct. They may try to say they will sell a 2004 for below invoice. I did not think about that but it still smells of bait and switch.

Gator,

I agree that people will pay way over sticker when they want a new car bad enough. I'm not one of them though. Kerbeck is a great dealer and I've spoken with them also. They will not get near the deal I have already made on the one I have on order either but they did not advertize "new Corvettes at below invoice" like Maxie did. I don't blame any dealer (or any other business) for getting every dollar they can on everything they sell. That's why they are in business. That's why I'm at work at my business today on a Sat......to make money! But what I can't stand and will not do myself is lie or tell half truths or do a bait and switch as this add looks to be to me!

Red 92,

Part of the problem for me is I don't want a loaded car. I only want a White with red interior, six speed, Z-51 package, 1SA trim level coupe. The sticker price for the car I want is only $47,410.00. Most of the cars on the lots are loaded and list for well over $50,000.00! I have one on order at $1500.00 over invoice and it will be here in May. I have no problem waiting but when I saw the ad on F150 about getting a Vette for UNDER invoice I thought what the hell. If this is real I will not have to wait and I can save $1500.00. It just truns out it must be BS.

Thanks for the names though (but I did talk to Dave at Kerbecks and he told me the deal I had was better than he could do because the cars are selling like hot cakes).

That's what I love about this site. Selfless acts of charity and helpfulness.

I hear you on the bait and switch Its a matter of poor business decisions. How companies can stay in business, doing such things amazes me. I went thru the same thing while looking at Plasma/LCD large screen TV's. Got so disgusted by the whole thing, I'll keep looking at my 10yr old 36" ProScan.

But I still hear those c-6's calling my name

I have sold cars at many different dealerships and none care about misleading anyone when it comes to advertising. They just want you to see the add and make contact with the dealership. Its the salemans job at that point. If you come in the dealership because you saw an add then it worked. At least thats how they look at it.

I posted this on Corvetteforums and it got locked down fast. This dealer is a supporting vendor over there and they care more about that supporting vendor's money than they do warning their members about bait and switch. I found (after doing a search) that this dealer does this kind of crap all the time.

Yeah, maxie price is a schiester, thats the word I've heard around here. That dealer is only about 20 minutes from me. He does sell alot of Corvettes there. Usually about 100 there including used at any given time.
