Anyone giving anything up for Lent this year? (doesn't matter what religion you are).

I am going to attemp to give up pop again this year. I made it 3 weeks a ocuple years ago when I attempted it. Of coarse I put the personal stipulation that Slurpees do not count as pop.

 

Same thing I give up every year: RELIGION!

 

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Lent?

 

That's the stuff that collects in your belly button

It the religious runup to Easter where most people give up some indulgence of theirs as a personal sacrafice.

 

I'm giving up Fish for Lent. It's gonna be tough, but I'll grind through that red meat somehow...

Paul - Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate the Resurrection. Lent begins on 9 February 2005 and ends on 26 March 2005.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent officially ends at sundown on 24 March (Holy Thursday), with the beginning of the mass of the Lord’s Supper.

One of my friends moms gave up chocolate for lent, and she lost 17 pounds, seriously! I think she had an addiction, or something

What's the signifigance of putting ash on your forehead? Are you supposed to keep it there all day?
