Here are 2 songs from my band. Keep in mind this is a ROUGH MIX. We mix/touch up vocals/add harmony parts at the end of the month. That's me on electric.

Not sure how well this style will go over here.

Any suggestions? Critiques?

Yes, both songs are originals

I attend a private college in central louisiana.

The other 3 guys attend a state university about 45 minutes away from here.

I like the sound. Nice ballads. Easy to follow and understand. I'll have my 16 yr. old son listen to it for the ultimate test. I hope to see ya'll at Jazzfest some day.

Not bad, but I personally prefer something heavier, Metallica, Shinedown, Creed etc. Those songs ought to clean up good.

The band sounds great, with one exception (you asked for critics ), your vocalist. He is OK at best, like most local bands. I do like your guitar playing though, who are your influences? You sound like John Mayer on the voices track.

Either I'm an idiot or else something in the latest Windows updates is stopping me from being able to listen. I'll try it with Mozilla and see if I can get anywhere.

That worked.

I like the sound, but I'm old school and not into the hip-hop crap being distributed these days. Seems like I detected just a hint of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song in the opening rif of the first tune, but I may be wrong.

Love is Blind:

Great song, love the feel of the verse, good bridge, and chorus is great. (reminds me of Barenaked Ladies)
* Needs keyboards
* singer is decent, but he can't hit some of the high notes alone, you guys have to add some harmonies / backing vocals to take some of the pressure of him. (IMHO)

Voices:
I like Love is Blind better, but that's neither here nor there. Still a good song though.
* Needs keyboards!
* Backups / harmonies!

You guys have a good sound, I like it.
From someone whose been there and done that, here's some advice:

Stay together, stick with it.
Don't fight over petty crap, that stuff kills bands.
Ego, don't let it get big. Big ego = fights over petty crap = destruction.

I wish you guys the best!

Habibi

Here's a pic from 87: Back when we used to share a rehearsal hall with The Hip.

Well, the vocal track is just a rough take. And we do plan on adding harmony, and some keyboard. All this will happen at the end of the month when we go back to the studio.

OK, I'm gonna reply since I do like the sound and lyrics....

If I'm being honest, the singer is pretty weak and rough. To me it clashes very hard with the music. Maybe it's the way it was recorded. Habibi might be right, some backup vocals might take the focus off the lead some.

Best of luck!

Hey, I actually think its pretty good. I know you are calling it alternative and whatever, but i listen to a lot of punk music and it has some deffinite similarities. Not punk like blink182 and that sort but some more soft punk..ex. The Beautiful Mistake - My Reminder. I am going to have to disagree with the majority. I like voices the best. Anymore just my opinion and I'm a 20yr/female. Maybe a bit more into that sort of music then some.
