Depends on how hard you hit it. Most times, I would say no, but in the instances where it would go off, you probably want it to. If you hit a deer, the impact isn't gonna be centered on your bumper, unless it's lying down in the middle of the road...

I don't remember where I heard it but I believe the sensors have to register an impact with the force equivlant to hitting a wall at 10mph.

hitting deer

I have experience hitting deer with my car and truck, what the deer does is try to jump over ur truck when it knows its going to be hit, thats why most damages are at ur hood, windshield, and roof, and ( This Is Important ) when you call ur Insurance Co to file a claim on the damage to ur truck, make sure you tell the Insurance Co, that "THE DEER HIT YOU" if you tell them that YOU hit the deer, they won't honor ur damage claim.

Deer are tough critters. As stated before, if you hit one hard enough to set of fthe airbags, you probably want them to go off!

BTW, young deer on a hill vs a caddy that my Aunt had for 2 weeks with a 17 y/o inexperienced driver = $125 for a turnsignal light assembly! And I just BARELY tapped that deer.

This fall I hit a deer doing about 45mph. It took out my grill, headlights, ac condenser and bent the bumper. but didn't set off the airbags.

Alright...time to hi-jack this thread!

With what has been said....what speeds determine your airbags to deploy?

In Jan. 2002 I was in a head on collision in a Ford Windstar. We were going about 40-45 on the highway in the snow....lady in a Jeep Cherokee in front of us lost control of the Jeep, and ended up on the shoulder. STOPPED. We were going around her and she hit the gas and spun around and hit us head on. (hurt like hell too) Our airbags didn't deploy. Like I said, we were going 40-45.

<edited for spelling>

That's an interesting question one of our cars at work just got smashed. There was a lot of damage on both sides and the front trun signal and the air bag went off. I didin't look like anything hit the front bumper. The driver said all he remembered was the initial thump then the car stopping and it was filled with powder. So he was no help at all as to when the air bag went off.

Now that's the most ridiculous thing I ever read.

Don't you think the Ins Co would ask some simple questions like:

How fast do you think the deer was going?

How come you aren't hurt more if that is what really happened?

Why did you give the keys to the deer in the first place?

Who taught the deer how to drive?
