Window Smashed and truck broken into

Well, I live in Houston so what do I expect! Some little punk smashed my right side widow, cracked my mirror and stole a leather bag worth almost nothing out of my truck yesterday when I was at the gym. Was only in the gyn for 35 minutes between 2:15 and 2:40 in the middle for the afternoon in a very busy shopping center!!! Talk about brave or very stupid. Anway I heard the window is pretty expensive to fix (around 500 - 850 dollars was what I was told). Anyone know if this is correct. It doesn't really matter, it has to be fixed either way. Anyway, as most of you know I always post pics so:

My awesome tape job after first cutting out some cardboard to fit in the hole

It is going to rain today so I hope it holds up, it not, it was not for a lack of trying!!!

And the cracked mirror

I have glass coverage in with my insurance.. Costs me nothing to have my glass replaced. Call your insurance agent & see if it is covered. Good luck dude.

Most people carry a low comprehensive deductible...check yours before you file a claim. Comprehensive losses (like yours) do not affect your rates.

Still sucks though.

The good thing is that there are probably a BUTT-LOAD of mobile glass replacement companies in your area...call 'em up and let them come to your house/business.

Clonetek..Is your Comp ded $0? Just curious...it's quite common. The company I used to work for would REPAIR glass for free, but if it needed to be replaced, your deductible would apply.

Yikes, that's happened to my rear windshield once too but from mother nature. 850 bucks seems a lot!! Mine was pretty expensive but not THAT expensive.

I agree with clonetek, be careful about the duct tape on the paint and trim! It'll mark it up...

Thats happend to my dads truck before too....all they got as a crappy jacket worth noting. Thats why i never leave anything in plain view anymore, even if it is just an empty bag. Some dumba$$ will think it has something valuable in it for some reason and smash my window...

Sorry to hear about your window GB. I agree with everyone else though, check with your insurance company before you do anything. I had a cracked windshield replaced in an '87 Cougar, the insurance covered everything but my $50 deductible. If you have comprehensive coverage (most people who have full coverage do) they should cover it. If you have a police report you may even get the deductible waived.

Good luck

Man... that really stinks! Some people have absolutely no respect for other's belongings.

Best of luck dealing with the insurance folks.

My collision deductible is 0, but my comp deductive is 50 or 100 I think?
But I also have glass coverage with my account. If I get a crack or if someone breaks my window, I just call my insurance agent & tell them. They just tell me to go get it replaced.

One time I had a rock peck in the windshield, all I wanted to do was have it fixed, they told me to go get it replaced anyway. lol

Here's the damage, after dropping my truck off at 7am this morning and calling to see if it was ready at 2pm today(that's right seven and a half hours later) I was told they just got the estimate and could have the window tinted and replaced by 7pm tonight . Twelve hours to replace a @!%$#$ passenger window!!!! I hate my stealership with a burning passion! The cost is $547.63. The service tech said it would have been cheaper to have broked out the front window. . But because I was in a great mood this afternoon, I bitched at the service manager for a good ten minutes about their total lack of customer service and the ridulous wait times at their place of business. He said he would get me a replacement truck for the night if it was not ready at 5pm today. I look forward to that!!! They will not have it ready if they follow the way they usually do business. So I will get to dog the s@#! out of the loaner on the 60 mile round trip to and from work tonight. That will make me feel a little bit better!

I agree about the duct tape. The guy I bought my previous F-150 from did the same thing. There was permenant paint damage around the window where the tape was.

No Damage from the duct tape. Only damage was from the crackhead that broke the window and the IQ drop that seems to happen when I go into my dealership.

Don't worry, that IQ drop is only temporary.
