Good decision?

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask everyone if I am making a good decision by buying a 2000 F150 4.6 auto with about 20,000 miles? The guys who owns it now pretty much lets it sit in his garage. The paint is flawless, everything is perfect on the outside and inside. The underbody doesn't have one bit of dirt on it. Will it most likely be a good truck that I won't have to worry about for a while? Also, when I go back to buy it, is there anything in particular I should look at or question him on? One thing I will buy if available are some sort of fender guards. I thought they normally came with them, I guess not. It is just paint inside of the rear fenders, no black plastic or anything to protect them from rock chips.

The 4.6 is a good engine and when maintained properly, sees over 200k miles.

Id probably ask him how he did with oil changes and other recommended services. If there were any problems with it, etc.

-suspension

I agree that you should drive it and ask about oil changes. I might ask why he has a truck that doesn't get used.

20K miles? That's like a new truck!

If the price is right and it's clean, I'd go for it

Sounds like a great deal to me. I would verify the service records but otherwise, go for it! BTW, since it is a 2000 will it be affected by the recall? Or is that only the 5.4L engine? Even if it is, it isn't a reason not to get the truck, the recall will still be taken care of.

The owners says he was keeping it in mint condition so it would be a nice classic in the future.

Sounds like a great deal to me. If your test drive goes well and
he'll sell it to you at a good price then why not. How about the tires ? Is it just sitting on them, does he move the truck at all ?
You would probably have a problem with them if they're just sitting . Good luck, and if you buy ... pics pics pics.....

He does drive it, I guess I shouldn't have said it just sits in his garage. The tires look good. It is a 2000 4.6 reg cab, short bed, white. Everything is stock, he added the chrome tubular bed rails. The chrome on the bumpers, mirrors, and wheels is all been well cared for.
