Angry DOH!!!!i HATE GARAGES

My wife's Explorer decided it didn't want to stop at a stop sign today, so of course she takes my truck to work and let's me get the brakes done on hers. So I take it to the garage and the first estimate comes out to just under $600. I look at it and see they are charging $50 for wheelbearings and $26 for the oil seals WTF. Fortuantely they are located next to a auto parts store. I go next door and pay a reasonable price for these, and the manager of the garage starts giving me a line about the lifetime warranty and all. Warranty he!! I'm just prepaying for them to change the bearings out until I sell the car. Then the mechanic says they normally charge $25 to install customer supplied parts. I looked at him hard then he changes his mind and says since it is included in the cost of the basic brake job we won't charge him for it.

What really irks me is I can do all of the work myself...if I had a third car and some time.

You probably already thought of this but why don't you rent a car for the day it will take to do the work?
It's got to be cheaper than paying the dealer.

I'm not falling for your 'cute but ignorant' act. Unfortunately it will be some kind soul emailing you to try and help you, but instead they will end up on every spam list for the next 5 years. Funny how you are smart enough to post and solicit your business here but are too ignorant to figure out how to read the posts.

Please don't any of you folks fall for this farce. Just ignore this idiot. And whatever you do, DON'T SEND HIM AN EMAIL!

I just spent 600 on just the rear brakes recently.

Drums were shot to hell and had to be replaced.

I know. I forget what else it needed, but it was just about every rear brake component there is.

It also fubard the front brakes which were only on there 3 months because they were doing all of the stopping.

They didn't charge me for that because the fronts were under warranty.

Me may be a bit on the high side, but he stands by his work and does excellent work.

That alone is enough for me to keep using him.

Sorry you "Hate Garages".

I have a garage and most of my customers LOVE me.

Remember, "You can Always do it yourself cheaper".

Sometime you should see what it takes to operate a decent indepentant garage. You'd be surprised.
