Fun job this morning- riding a house
It's amazing the opportunities that come along in one's life. I've been lucky enough to get hooked up with a house mover and today was my second time working with him. I got to ride on top of a house being moved about 5 miles in order to trim tree limbs out of the way and assist with deflecting wires over the house. No, I don't have pictures, but I think I saw a local newspaper photographer at one point so I will keep an eye out for a story in the next few days.
The guy's website is www.modernmovers.com and he has some pictures from previous moves that are pretty neat. The last time I worked with him, he floated a 3 story house on a barge and down the Indian River over in Cocoa Beach. That move will be highlighted on the Discovery Channel sometime in March. I didn't ride that one, just trimmed a couple trees for clearance.

My neighbors have a double wide home that was put in last year and the movers owners wife was the one on top of the house moving wires and limbs that is until she fell off and broke her hip (she was 55). The house looks good but this winter it is turning into a nightmare for them. The house heaves when the weather is cold and there bathroom has heaved maybe 6" this year and it is so cold in there and along with frozen pipes and the plastic (PVC??) toilet and shower and a furnace made by Coleman (camping stove?). they are a long way from being happy. All the skirting has shifted and is now just a mess all around the house (trailer) whatever. I thought with the 2x6 walls and 2x10 floors it was a fairly good deal but ummmm NO. They paid 52,000 for this pos and i feel sorry for them because they are stuck with it. Are there good ones out there??. The whole house has turnbuckles under it to adjust the level and it just seems like they got a raw deal here...

At first I thought you were refering to the "I rode a house yesterday", but that mouth full of flour portion is great also!
