I remember when...
...Music came on LP's or 8 tracks.
...Saturday afternoon TV...the Creature Feature.
...Movies were at the theatre or on TV, no other formats available.
...Atari came out with Pong.
...Your phone was big, black, had a dial and was attached to the wall with a cord.
...Wiley E. Coyote could have a rock dropped on his head and no-one worried that it might incite violence.
...Communication with those far away was done either by Ma Bell or the US Postal Service, period.
...TV was 3 channels and it came into your home through an antenna on the roof.
...Seatbelts were not required and it was OK to ride in the back of a pickup.
...A candy bar cost 5 cents.
...There was no speed limit in the state of Montana.
There are more but my brain is just turning to mush at this hour!

I remember when....
- Cartoons only came on on Saturday morning and you would sit on the floor with a bowl, the milk and the whole box of cereal!
- it was called "Jr High" and not "middle school"
- it was normal to allow your Jr High kid to leave the house in the morning on a bike and not come back until supper time and not have to worry about them because you knew they were within a 3 mile radius of the house.
- kids would behave as if at home within that 3 mile radius because everyone in it actually knew your parents and could correct any potential bad behavior just by threatening to "call your folks".
- people ALWAYS put on their "nice clothes" to go out to eat.

I remember the 80's the best
I still have my Michael Jackson "Thriller" LP that I played a miilion times on the turntable. I also had The Chipmunks Christmas" on 8 track.
The Cosby Show on Thursday nights I think it was followed by Family Ties and Cheers
Back to the Future was an awesome movie. So were the brat pack moves, St. Elmos Fire, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, etc.
Everyone watched "Looney Tunes" "Tom and Jerry" or "Woody Woodpecker" and later on "The Smurfs" and "The Thundercats" and they were all loaded with cereal commercials. Cereal commercials were a big deal.
Everyone had an American car, Chevy Celebrites, Pontiac 6000's, Ford Tempos, LTD's, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was what everyone wanted, it was the best selling car for many years in the 80's.
An F-150 custom had no options and was a 300ci 6cyl. 4spd on the floor, they all had the same blue, beige or black interior and XL got you tilt, cruise and a AMFM radio, and XLT was power windows, locks a cassette player and some chrome and nicer wheels and carpet, a Lariat was more chrome and two tone paint and usually a 302 V8 and possibly captains chairs and sometimes a 351 V8. I also remember overdrive being such a big new option that Ford had a special emblem that went on the tailgate. "overdrive"

A few more
no one had ATM's people had a "check cashing card" at several grocery stores so when my parents needed money it was off to Kash and Karry to cash a check, then we would go see the movie.
There was no pay at the pump, you had to go stand in line and pay.
My stepdad's first cell phone was installed in his car and consisted of a hard monted phone, a power pack and a huge antenna. It cost $1.57 per minute to use it, I know because I called a buddy of mine for ten minutes and got busted and had to pay for it.
EVERYBODY HATED RAP MUSIC, of course none of it was Gangsta and it was still hated. Now it's 1000 times worse than it was and 100000 times more popular.
The first videos I remember on Mtv
John Cougar "Jack and Diane" and "Hurts So Good"
Fleetwood Mac "hold me"
I use to walk to the store and buy a 16ox glass bottle of Dr. Pepper for $.35 and return the bottle for a nickel. Walk home and watch MTV.
There was no Wal-Mart, there was K-mart which used to be better, Sears, and Woolco. Before Wal-Mart ruined America.
"The Tandy TRS-80" to go with the IBM electric Typewriter.

I remember
I remeber French Rolling my jeans...Some call it "tight roll", Polo cologne was the only cologne to wear. The hotties wore Electric Youth by Elizibeth "somebody", We had Beastie Boys and the Fat Boys and neither was a boy band...Hotties were called Babes, Chicks, or Honies...Hair bands rocked the radio stations soaking the charts with true music. Thier ballads included a message about how much they loved a girl, NOT how much they hurt her! (Examples: Bon Jovi - “I'll Be There For You“ vs. Limp Bizkit - "Behind Blue Eyes"!) I remember when if I wanted to go any where I had to get there myself...there were little to no "Soccer Moms"...Moms were cool if they drove the Mustang LX "4 banger" not and SUV and was really hot if they had a 5.0 HO!

My wife just made me trim mine for the first time last night!

I am convinced I am not actually losing any hair...it is just going inside my head and coming out in other places like nose, ears, toes, knuckles, etc...

I remember....
- ATARI Was tons of fun.
- Every kid wanted a BMX bike
- GI Joe was the coolest cartoon.
- So was TransFormers
- Base Ball Cards was fun to collect and then eat the horrible gum inside.
- The VCR remote had a wire attached to it. It only offered fast forward and pause. Our VCR was huge.
- Our tv only has 12 channels on it. You had to turn the dial to change the channel.
- Converse high top shoes.
- My dads brand new 1981 GMC pick up.

I don't remember anything from less than 10 years ago, the more I learn, the more old stuff I have to forget to make room for the new stuff. Then again, I can't remember how to do long division by hand but the words to "Ice Ice Baby" are burned into my head for eternity.
Changing the channel AND the antenna setting for the new station.
making popcorn and warming leftovers on the stove
Actually playing t-ball, instead of coach pitch t-ball (the coach pitches a ball about 10x if the kid can't hit it then they use the t)
Beta VCR's
A decent new car for less than 5,000

Another one is that you used to have to pull the entire tab off of canned sodas to open them. The corner store parking lot was always covered in those things.
And I was just trying to explain to my kid this past week-end how K-mart used to be the "wal-mart" of my kid years.
I also remember
I also remeber cans of oil that you had to stab with a metal funnel to open and buying R-12 refregerant off the shelf any where including at Wal-Mart. By the time I can remeber anything about the corporate world Wal-Mart had pretty much took over and K-Mart was carrying things like Adidas tennis shoes with 2 bars or Nikes with a funny looking swoosh.
i remember the SNOW and then skating behind where i grew up here in mass on THANKSGIVING...starting front engine dragsters at new england dragway on the rollers by the air and water shed..carbs instead of e.f.i. ....dual point distributors and condensers...when accell made the supercoil...and horsepower was made the old fashioned way PORTING AND POLISHING BY HAND...nitrous was for the dentist...gas was for washing parts, alcohol was for drinking and nitro was for racing and the drinking age was18(LONG time ago)...zap!
