Question What Does 7700 Mean?

I just recently purchased a 2001 F-150 and when i was washing it i came upon the emblume on the tail gate which says F-150,7700. Were on the Front Fender it says F-150,XLT. What does 7700 mean? Is it an upgrade package or just some strange mess up.

It's a heavy duty suspension upgrade. Your truck is sort of like a bastardized F250. You have the 7700 lb GVWR, mostly due to the F250 rear axle. And your wheels have 7 lugs.

If your wheels do not have 7 lugs, then it means that someone just swapped tailgates on your truck and it isn't a 7700.

bigger brakes, master cylinder, suspension, axles and i think it has a 4R100 4speed automatic. Also ride about 1" taller. it used to be called an F250LD

I'd say it means you got more truck than you bargained for. You thought you were buying a regular 150, but instead bought an F-250 in disguise. Congratulations!! I wish I could be so lucky.

Yeah, they discontinued the F-250LD in 1999, and just rebadged the upgraded F-150's. I had a 99 250LD and it was a great truck that was basically trouble free except for an ABS sensor and axle seals. Bigger and better trans, brakes etc, it pulled my 24' travel trailer exceptionally well with the 3.73 rear end and still delivered about 12-13mpg. My current Screw only gets about 10mpg pulling, but it has 3.55's, so what I gain travelling empty, I pay for travelling loaded. The GVW on the 250 was 7200, so the 7700's are even a little better yet. I wish they made the Screws a bit heavier duty. You got a good unit, hang on to it.
