Question How big can I go?

Hi all,

so...i have a single cab with stock tires and stock ride hieght. It is a 2wd truck as well. My question is how much larger of a tire can I go to and not need to raise the truck or worry about a decrease in turning radiuse. I don't want the tires rubbing against anything when turned all the way over...atleast not bad enough for me to notice. So i am curiouse, how much larger can i go?? thanks in advance guys...appreciate the help.

rocky,

took your advice and checked the forum.

i gathered that a 31' is the biggest to go because of rubbing issues on the front. assuming no lift. i saw a post that said i could run 33's in the back and get a raked look...but i want to rotate normally. i am looking for a specific kind of tire(s) to look at. i really know nothing on the subject and if you anyone could help me out that would be great.

recomendations and experiances are welcome. rocky, btw...thanks for welcoming me to the site. i actually didn't get an official welcome when i joined in 01. I dunno, maybe i did...but i can't remember.

thanks again guys

On the 2wd's the biggest you can fit without issues is a 265/75/16.

What kind of look are you going for? Off-road? Or do you just want a tire that performs and if so what will you be doing with it?

its all basically for the look. i want something that will look a little meaner. i am going to need new tires soon, so i figure i would just replace them with something a little rugged looking. but i have no money for any kind of mod like a lift. So i just want a good looking tire. the ones on there now look pretty dinky if you ask me. but they do serve there purpose. i don't do any off roading or anything like that. thanks for the size.

I definatley wouldn't go with anything like a 30" the decrease in ride, cornering and the increase of road noise will drive you insane. Plus my opinion it wouldn't look good on a 2wd I wouldn't think anyway.

Meaner is a matter of opinion and can be dictated by the rest of the vehicle. Are you just wanting to fill the gap between the tire and the outside fender? 2wd with monster tires ussally looks goofy. 4wd with low profile performance tires also ussally goofy. Especcially if the rest of the truck is stock.

Think about this scenario too, if you put off road tires on it and it does make it look meaner. You are out with friends or someone and they say hey lets cut thru here, or that mud looks like fun lets go thru it! You say no it's only 2wd... how big of a dork are you going to feel like? Or worse yet then they rib you on it not being a real truck and you decide to do it and you get stuck then would you live it down anytime soon? Especially if anyone around is a Chevy or Dodge guy! All becuase your truck was trying to fake its way to cool. Stock size or smaller Performance tires or All Terrain tires no one will question it.

A vehicle is like a person, if they try and fake being something that they are not they always get caught and it looks worse for them. We all know those people in school or work that try so hard to be cool that they look like dorks and don't fit in...If anyone dosen't know one of those people then you might be one...J/K

Personnally I rarely tell a vehicle what it's going to look like, instead I sit and look at it for a while walk around it and let it tell me what it wants to look like and consider how I am going to use it. Then I buy accessories to accent the choosen theme and changing tire size is an accessory.

If it is 2wd and not going to be in the mud... might I suggest stock or a little smaller and lowering the truck (There are cheap lowering kits for the difference you would pay for a set of 30" tires.) that will fill the gap abobe the tires and improve handeling. The rear you simply move the leaf springs from on top of the axle to beneath it. Good for about 2" of drop and it looks fast and mean. Now thats not to say a jacked up 4x4 with 33's dosen't look mean as well, but we are talking about a 2wd.

Just a suggestion and things you might consider...thats my 2 pennies..It's your truck do what you want. No one else has to drive it but you, so you are the only one that you need to please. Screw everyone else as long as your happy then we are tickeled pink.
