Air rifle, anyone have 1 of these?

Wanting an air rifle. Looking at something like this. Does anyone have 1 of these? Looking for likes/dislikes etc.

http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=379

Would like to have a Walther but at $1800 it is a little out of my budget right now.

Thanks

man air rifles have come a lone way since i was a kid. Thats cool stuff right there. No more pumping 10times to fire one shot. Quite pricey tho, can buy a real rifle for those prices.

That's a far cry from the Official Carbine Red Rider BB Gun...... "You'll shoot your eye out" (Movie: Christmas Story)

That's no "Daisy" that's for sure...

I had a Daisy Powerline 880 that fired BB's, and .177 cal pellets at speeds up to 690 fps. That was supposed to be able to kill a person (If hit in the right place).

My friend had a Daisy 922, that was clip fed & pellet only.

My cousin had a Crossman .177/BB gun too.

My first was a lever-action Daisy BB gun. I hit a robin squre in the chest with it, and the bb bounced off. That day, I started saving for my 880. A few kids parents splurged and bought them the gas-charged pellet guns. Air cartridges were expensive to replace. Much more costly than pumping my 880 10-100 times (depending on how far I wanted to reach out and tag a squirrel).

That said, no way would I spend $1,800 on an air gun.

Get a Daisy, pop for a scope, and keep $1,700 for F-150 accessories.

I can't load that link at work because the major company I work for is so frickin' PC so I d/k exactly what air rifle you're considering.

I hunt and shoot 'tree-rats' almost daily in my yard and neiborhood. I use a Beeman GS1000 with a scope just like this GH1000 except for the surpresser. The appearance is excellant with close-to if not first class walnut.

What sold me on this unit/combo(after owning a GAMO Hunter/scope) was the scope stop. These types of air rifles are rough on scopes and mounts and no matter what I tried, the mounts would slide backwards on the GAMO. Beeman fixed that permanently. I have run a few thousand .177 pellets thru my Beeman, killed a few hundred squirrels and it is a joy to use----high quality combo.

i have a RWS single shot pellet rifle (german made).

shoots .177 caliber pellets at 1250 fps. (roughly the same as a .22 powder shell)

i think the pellets i am using are around 14 grains so they are alot lighter than a .22, but the gun is a beauty. they also have spear tipped, and hollow tip pellets for the gun.

its around 13 pounds, with a solid wood stock. and the gun is built like a tank. its a beauty.

single side-pull lever, which is spring loaded (not air).

whats nice about that is it will always shoot as long as the spring is compressed (dont have to worry about air cannisters, or pumping ten times or whatever)

dont know if that would suit your needs, but i am real happy with it.

I looked at some spring guns, but the precharged is the way I am leaning after shoting a few. No recoil which is better on the scope, but some of them do make a lot of noise, with the type of pressure they use.

Thanks for posting and maybe someone will come along that has one and give some info.

I had a 880 when I was a kid. In fact, my best friend shot me in the face with his 880. We were playing a stupid game, and the gun was suppoed to be empty. The bb hit me right in the cheek, but it went in, and I bled like a stuck pig...

He was my best friend, but boy he got his **** kicked that day. I hated to do it, but that was too close to my eye!

This thread made me go look for a pellet gun. I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and found that they STILL SELL the 880, but it looked cheesy next to the new Powerline 1000S. I read the specs and this thing can spit out a pellet at over 1,000 fps. That's pretty darn good for an airgun. I was Soooooooooooooo tempted to get it; it was $94.00 with the scope already attached...

Alas, I live in the city and I'm raising a 16 year old that gets into enough trouble just going to school everyday, let alone what his dumb **** might do with a high-powered air rifle.

But oh, if I were back home in the country; with all the stray dogs (Coming in my yard killing the cats), and snakes. (Did you know a King Snake can take 23 shots from an 880 before it dies?) That would be a lot of fun.

I have a RWS .177 Diana with a scope. It's a pretty deadly air rifle.

I shoot tree rats as well. My friends and I sit around the campfire spotlighting them. We will get 2 or 3 a night before they go into hiding mode. Lately they have been scarce. It's good thing but it makes the campfires not as exciting.

I tried the GAMO but it would not shoot right. I took it back and tried another with the same results. It would shoot a group about the size of a basketball at 25 yds. with iron sights. I thought the scope was causing the problem but it was the same results.

The RWS shoots a group about the size of a nickel at 25 yds. Probably would do better if I did it with a benchrest.

Beeman and Benjamin also makes a pretty decent one.

Is a Benjamin the same as the Benjamin Franklin brand?
I had a Benjamin Franklin pellet gun a long time ago.
Wood stock, bolt action, single shot, pump to prime.

I think it is the same company. If it's the one I am think of then it's pretty powerful. They had to quit making them like that because the air chamber could burst from over pumping. They installed a relief valve, so now you can't get the insane velocities. Somewhere around 1800 fps for .22 caliber.

They are great air rifles. One of them good condition can sell for as much as $400.00
