computer doodes...help!
hey all, i have a problema,
my son put a disc into the E drive, and it is stuck! i've tried to eject it from the program on the computer, no go, hit the button on the tower, no go, tried a knife, but i did not want to break it, so..no go! besides from dismantling the tower and pulling out the E drive, any suggestions would be great! thanks, Willie

on a wild guess, I'm thinking your drive is trying to read the disc, but is having problems due to gunk/scratches, etc. As long as it is trying to read it, it will not open. Try rebooting the computer, and as soon as the power kicks on and bios screen shows up, then try ejecting it before your OS starts to load.
If that doesn't work, time to pry it open, but do it with the power off; you don't want to do it with the drive spinning.
I'd wait on other suggestions before prying it though if my first suggestion doesn't work. 95 times out of 100, you won't damage anything by manually pulling the drawer open, but not something I'd want to do if I didn't have to.

copy that, i'll wait but not too long. actually, if i try to run the disk, it runs, just won't open. i hate these things! wish we could go back to counting rocks and using charcoal!
Look for a tiny hole on the front of the drive. Get a paper clip, straighten it out, and press it into said hole. If you feel resistance, press harder. It's the emergency eject. The disk may still be spinning, but don't worry about it. If your really paraniod, shut the pc down then perform said task. You'll get your CD out no problem-o.
Invoice is in the mail... another satisfied customer.

dzervit, thanks dog. got it out, but here is the problem, part two.
the drive will not responde to the button. the light lit up when i popped out the disk, and when i pushed it in, it went on it's own, but the button will not do anything except allow it to take back the disk tray.

nothing man! when i did the emergency eject, it made awful whizzing and whirring sounds! no what? if i need a new one, abut how much., and i have a dell, should something like that be under a warrenty? the system is about a year and a half old.
it just says compact disc in big letters and it also says rewritable and ultra speed. i think that it is a cd rom tray. the top one says dvd rom on it so i'm guessing that the bottom one is cd rom. but now it works, the button's shot, but it reads and plays cd's. button works to return the tray but will not eject.
Go to this site
http://www.completelydifferent.co.uk/executable/
and download the cokegift.exe file and run it. It's a joke that opens the CD tray as a drink holder.
I had a family members CD rom that wouldn't open by any of the normal means but did open when the joke file ran.

Go with the new drive. CompUSA or BestBuy for about $30. To replace, it's as simple as power off, unplug power cord, open box, unplug old drive (3 wires and remember what wire goes where and which is up), unscrew old drive and remove. Put new drive back in and follow steps in reverse order.
When the PC powers up, it will find it and install what it needs.
Now you have a new coffee cup holder...
