Window Tinting
Window Tinting
Can someone give me the lowdown on having your vehicle's windows tinted? I want it done right, so what do you estimate it would cost? What is the best type of film to get? I read up a little about it on TintCenter.com but I am confused at the percentages. According to that website,,
I'd like to get the darkest tint possible, so what percentage would that be? I am not sure what it refers to; the reflective or the amount of light let in.
Comments please!
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front_Side_Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Back_Side_Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Rear_Window Must allow more than 32% of light in.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN GEORGIA?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front_Side_Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.
Back_Side_Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.
Front_Side_Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Back_Side_Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Rear_Window Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Are your rear windows already tinted from the factory? If yes, then a 20% would match perfectly and you should pay around $75 to get the two front done. If you have no factory tint, I'd expect to pay $150-$200 to get all the windows done. Look for a place that will warrenty the film & their work for the live of the vehicle. If they don't, run away.

The percentages refer to the amount of light that will pass through the window. 20% tint allows 20% of the light to pass through and therefore is darker than 35% tint. Most vehicles that are tinted from the factory have 20% tint. I'm not sure about the rules in Georgia, but in Washington a vehicle can have as dark as 5% (limo tint) on all rear windows (ie, the back doors on a Supercrew or ext. cab side windows), and 5% on the back glass (rear slider window). The front driver and passenger windows are not supossed to exceed 35%. I have my fronts tinted 20%, like dezervit, and have had no problems with police yet. I personally don't think 35% is dark enough so I'd go with 20% all the way around if it was me. You can check out my gallery for some pics.

GA's tint law was just struck down as unconstitutional last year. I believe you're good with any tint now. Before you couldn't have darker than 32% on the front side windows. I personally wouldnt pay more than $50 to get the 2 front side windows done.
I paid $50.00 to have my dricer and passanger windows tinted with 25% tint and the folks did the rear door windows for free (said it didn't look right after he tinted the front windows). The rear window already has the factory privacy tint and I have a window graphic on it too. And yes Georgia doesn't have a valid tint law on the books right now. I don't know where in Ga you re but if you check out Trucks 'n More in Thompson or Martinez they can set you up. There are many trust worthy companies in the state who will do the job right.

Yes, I'll drive.
Anywho... once last thing stuck in my head - you said you'd like as dark as possible. Now living in a state that doesn't have any tint laws on the books, you maybe compelled to get something really dark... just remember if you drive at night, anything lower than a 32% makes it difficult to see. At 20% your struggling, and if a vehicle or person isn't lit up, you will NOT see them. Limo tints are close to it - forget about driving safely at night. Food for thought. 20-30% will be plenty to protect your privacy while doing un-holy acts to your man while on the road.
