You shoot anything other than High Power?

We are just starting the indoor leagues around here. Bullseye Pistol and Offhand Smallbore rifle. I shoot a lot of different things throughout the summer. Mostly Smallbore Silhouette some High power silhouette when I can get the time, nearest ranges for it are 100 to 125 miles away.

My problem is there just aren't enough Saturdays and Sundays in the month to get all of the shooting done.

hope all you shots are X's and 10's.

Any other shooters here?

For the time being, no. Our club has 29 matches scheduled this year, between regionals, long range, XTC and the reduced courses. I'd like to try some IDPA this summer though. Lack of time is killing me too; I hope for Xs and 10s, but at the rate I've been practicing, it'll be a miracle if I get rounds on paper next month.

Favor X.

Question Ruger No. 1

I'm a bit of a gun nut too. I'm thinking about buying a Ruger No.1 in .204 Ruger. Anyone have any opinions or advice on the No.1?
My buddy has one in 220 Swift and it shoots awesome.
Anyway I don't often shoot for X's and 10s, but usually for heads or vitals. I used to shoot alot of sporting clays, but then I moved and there's not much of that around here.

I bought a .17 cal over the weekend. I had never seen one. It is fun to shoot, and for $200, I figured why the hell not. It's about the only thing I didn't have.

~Edit~

PS: Are you a lefty, or is your safety off?

whatcha shootin' at with it? Personally, I'd stay away from an oddball like a .204 ruger. Ammo and reloading supplies will probably be hard to come by.

If you want something in the class of a .220 swift or 22-250, why not get one of those? Much easier to track down the supplies you need. .223 WSSM is a dandy round in that class as well.

I'm a little funny when it comes to 'oddball' rounds like that. I almost bought a fox rifle in .221 rem. fireball, but most places around me don't even carry ammo for it. Also, I'm extremely biased to my Browning B.O.S.S. rifles...

that's the great thing about guns, nobody wants the same stuff...

.17 HMR's have been around for a couple of years now. I've toyed with the notion of buying one. Good for a pelt gun on foxes, coons, and the like. Some take 'yotes with them. Personally, I think that's beyond the practical limit of the gun, but they do it.

Everything I've read about Ruger #1s has been nothing but positives, so I doubt you'll go wrong there. I think the big advantage of the .204 is barrel life. I think Ruger claimed roughly twice the accurate barrel life for the .204 as opposed to the .220 Swift. The .223 WSSM is hard on barrels. Hornady reported significant throat erosion about 350 rounds into their tests, how badly that would affect accuracy, though, I don't know.

On which one? I'm right handed...the bolt is locked back on my AR in that picture, and I just saw that the safety is off on the Benelli in the other picture. Or are you referring to the carrier drop lever...the chrome button with the red dot on it?

That's definately true. I used to have a 25-06. They are prone to the same problems. Anytime you get over 4000 fps, barrels aren't gonna last too long. Whether or not they can get twice the life remains to be seen.

A lot of times I miss that 25-06. 75 grain Hornady Vmax clipping along around 4100 fps did some MAJOR damage to a long range groundhog or cat. One time I popped a groundhog that was dead level with me looking right at me. I put that round literally right down his throat. I walked out to have a look at him; his head was basically intact (they only part of it that was), except for his two front teeth that got knocked off by the bullet as it went down his throat. I swear to god. That was one of my favorite shots...Ahh, I miss that gun. Anyways...

As for accuracy, a falling block single shot w/heavy barrel is going to be a challenge for anything to beat...

Now that the evil assault weapon ban has gone away, you get a collapsible stock for your AR-15

what type of shotgun is that?

36, nah, collapsible stock wouldn't make it legal for service rifle. I'm gonna build a shorty carbine sometime later this year. Although whenever I get this upper rebarrelled, I'm gonna put a flash hider and a bayonet lug on it just 'cause I can.

The shotgun is a Benelli M1 Super 90 Tactical.

Ahh, .17 would be sweet for coon. I use a .22 Ruger with hollow points and its kind of small for the coons around here.
I was thining of using my .223 with a soft point bullet but i think it might get the better of the coon

If you guys ever get the chance to coon hunt do it, its awsome, and around here we've been gettin about an average of 10 bucks a coon. Easy and fun money.

So whats everyone got for guns
I gots..
Savage 223
243 with mouser action
ruger 10/22
Browning pump invector plus 12 gauge
H&R 20 and .410 gauge
old winchester 22 short-worth some money
And the all time favorite.......BB gun
Im thinkin i got more but I cant remember.

.204-sounds kinda worthless to me, what would you use it for?
