Justification for regular oil changes!!

My daily driver (A 94 F150 with 171K miles) lost oil pressure the other day. I bought it with 14X,K miles and always had a little lifter noise, so I guess this was bound to happen. After a little diagnosing, I figured it to be a clogged oil pick up. This could have a small effect on oil pressure

Thumbs down

Looks like regular use of Quaker State oil!! I wouldn't even use that stuff in my lawn mower!

Theres nothing wrong with Pennzoil. We have a '92 4.6L that has been running pennzoil for most if not all of its life and it is still running strong at 185k+ miles.

Any oil pick up can look like that without regular oil changes regardless of what oil is used.

I run pennzoil in my F150 as well, its at 120k now and there are no problems with it. Just make sure you change your oil regularly

trust me i do. i run the truck at 80-85 on the PA turnpike for 75 miles each way, everyday, so the oil gets changed every 2 weeks

Whoever owned that before you didnt change the oil like they should. And then when you came along, doing proper maintenance, the anti-sludge additives in the oil released the sludge, clogging the oil pump. Most conventional oils are very similar today. Quaker state used to be sludgy back in the 60's, but not anymore.

My '88 F-150 w/302 has 195,000 miles on Pennzoil and Fram filters. The engine runs like a new one (better than some new ones, haha) and the oil changes cost me only $11. Best oil on the Wal-Mart shelf.
