125,000+ Dead So Far
Yup, thats right, there are at least 125,000 people dead from the Tsunami in Southeast Asia. I thought Id post this, since I havent seen any posts about this yet. I think by the time its all over, the death toll will double from what it is at right now.
Ya it's bad man.
Those poor fawkers over there, I was nearly in tears watching the coverage on CNN.
Merry frikkin xmas, and Happy frikkin New year!
I'm researching charities at the moment, we're going to donate $200, but I want to find the best place to give it.
I don't mind giving the money, but I don't want to make the CEO's Cadillac payment. That's the problem with many of these charities, many of them are so bloated and inefficient, very little of the donation actually reaches the people who need it.
I don't think any amount of money is going to solve the problems over there, but at least it's a start.

This is so terrible. Its hard to even comprehend how many people are effected by this.
How are they getting these numbers? remember 911 they said 5-6 thousand. Thankfully it was half that.
I hope they have exaggerated or miss calculated these number.
I herd not many animals died because they could sense the danger and ran away from it.

The sad part about this is that experts had warned these people to put a tidal wave warning system into effect for years. They supposedly said that it would cost too much. It would have given these people about 4 hours warning if it were in effect. Very sad.
yes its hard to even comprehend :Just seen on the news a Police Chief in one small indonesia town was washing his house out with purified drinking water while others in the area were going thirsty ........ really makes you wonder
Yes, I was stunned to say the least, when I heard just before leaving for church on 12/26 that 22,000 people had been killed by the Tsunami. Now it's nearing 150,000- not to mention the ones that were carried out to sea that will never be accounted for.
Given the Epicenter's close proximity o land, there is no way the people in some of the hard hit areas would've had had 4 hours leeway- maybe 20 minutes at best- given the proximity to Indonesia and maybe 1-hour for the ones in Thailand. There is little reason for as many of the folks in Sri Lanka, India and Madagascar to have died.
They say the wave crosses the waters at 550 MPH, but slows to about 40 as it reaches shallower water and land- but it piles up on itself creating the tidal wave. As it crosses open water, it was only 1 meter deep, according the oceanographers. They said people in ships wouldn't have even felt or noticed it.
