How to find a good plumber in the area?
I'm having a problem with my floor drain in the basement backing up when there is a large load on it (2 showers running, shower and washing maching etc.) I'm getting sick of having to go down to clean and sanitise the floor so I need to have someone come out and snake or auger the line.
I don't have any connections to a local plumber so is there any home improvement sites out there that might have info about local plumbers in the Detroit area? I figure there are car forums up the ying-yang so why not any HI forums.
Thanks!

I called a local plumber in my area when I had a similar problem and he said that he had gotten out of the rooting business and he recommended someone to me. I would say just get out the phone book and call around.
are you on city sewer or your own septic system? if on city sewer, the backup could be underground between your house and the sewer main. If so, it MAY be the city's responsibility to fix it. Like I said, MAY, but it is at least worth investigating
I've got a city hook up. I have to look into if they city will take care of it.
I have a tree in my backyard and I'm almost positive that the roots have gotten into the line. Hopefully it just needs to be augered

Is that company too far from you?

If you don't have a relationship with a particular plumber, this company specializies in your problem. It would seem that in ability/price they would be your best bet.

Raoul:
I should resist the temptation but I just can't.
Christmas this year must have been very happy for you as your posts on this thread are the milk of human kindness.
With a smile on my face and my utmost respect and enjoyment of your often caustic wit on these forums may I wish you a very Happy New Year and as well my hope that JRodSVT can get his pipes reamed at no charge by the local authorities.
As Raoul says, RotoRooter is the best in the business but they are not cheap. As well, if it is a tree root, something I have constant problems with living out in the country 400' off the road, in most cases it will be your responsibility to take care of the root problem and you may have to dig up, cut out and replace whatever section of line that may have been invaded by the tree root. Or, have someone else do it.
Let us know how it turned out, please.

Well, I have used Roto-Rooter and I can't actually say they were expensive.
The last time I called a plumber I had a sneaking suspicion he was overcharging. He pulled into the driveway driving a Blackwood with a pipe rack.
I'm not saying that everyone that drives a Blackwood overcharges.
(That would be caustic)
