Rats are a problem for us out in the field on NG compressors, they build a nest quick and eat the wiring in panels and on the ignition systems. We use decon and put it in the panels to help the little fellowers out hehehehe
Years ago when I owned a gas station garage, one of my regular costumers came in with his ultra clean 67 Sebring. We were just hanging out and he wanted to show me something under his hood, latest piece of chrome.
There was a HUGE pack rat sitting on his air cleaner, glaring at us. The rat ambled down the top of his trans, and vanished. This was in the center of three bays, no other cars, everything clean and well lit.
Four of us tried to chase that rat out of the car. No luck. We had the car up on a lift, and you would see the rat, running up and down on the 727 trans, once down the drive shaft, and back up under the hood. Would not come out.
The owner finally came up with parking the car with the hood open and the 8 track (yeah back then) turned up loud.
Three dog night finally chased the rat out. It ran across the parking lot, and up the wheel of parked car at a nearby liquor store. Last seen the car was headed for Oregon, rat still in residence.

No kidding! A co-worker had a rats nest under the hood of his Toyota Tundra. They got under there and chewed through a very expensive engine wiring harness.
After over $800.00 in damage, he was finally able to start and drive the truck.
