I've got the E-trex Vista. Basically the same as the Legend, Vista may hold more waypoints.

The E-trex series are all fairly easy to operate and understand. Helped me out of the woods a couple of times. The only complaint that I have is they sometimes have difficulty picking up satellite signals, especially if you're in the woods under a canopy of leaves. Probably most hand helds do the same thing. The Garmin 72 series GPS comes with an external antenna which would help with picking up the signals.

eTrex Vista here as well...

I use mine for getting around on occasion but, more often than not, I'm using it for Geocaching...

Yeah, they're free. Go to garmin.com. I never new about it and my software version was so old that I had to do a complete reinstall. Warning though, I think it tells you that if you need a complete reinstall that you loose your waypoints.

I added an auxillary power point beneath the steering colum (and above the pedals) and ran the cig-cord down the A-pillar. Also, I have one of the suction cup mounts which was up at the tint line in the corner...

Worked like a champ... I have some pictures of the install floating around here somewhere... I can email them if you're interested... just fire me an email. (link in signature line).

If you already have a laptop, Best Buy was selling the Delorme Earthmate/Street Atlas 2005 combo for $89...

I have been using SA 2003 for two years, and it works very well.

PROS: 15" screen, voice commands, Voice guidance.

CONS: Tough to manipulate touchpad when you are driving (I have a handheld trackball that works GREAT.)
Passenger might not want to hold computer for long trip...

I received the RoadMate 700 for X-mas last year. Didn't know what I would really do with it. Now I use it all of the time.

The only drawback, is it really has no use off road, but my handheld Eagle GPS takes care of that just fine.
