Hey slim sorry to hear that. I got laid off 4 years ago, and I didn’t get any forewarning. I was called into my boss’ office and informed there was going to be some major cut backs and he couldn’t hold my position without a substantial decrease in wage. He wanted to let me go that same day; of course the JA didn’t call me into his office until 3 PM. I was able to convince him to let me finish out my pay period. Three months later they went out of business, filed bankrupt.

At least you can get unemployment. I was good for 6 mo but it only took me 4 to find my current position.

Good luck bud!

Welcome to the club! Was told in August we had until the end of the year. I've since been extended until the end of March, hopefully the job hunting is better after the first of the year because it hasn't been that great up til now.

The least these people could do is lay us off in the summer time!

Thanks for all the well wishes guys! Sorry I got all your hopes up with the thread title. All I did this morning was *****, shower, and shave, well then I lost my job too. In retrospect I shouldn't have bothered to shave.

66, Sorry to hear about your news. Pretty crappy time to have this done too. 4th quarter budget numbers must not have come in right. Keep your head up man, you'll be back soon enough.

Sorry to hear that but it could've been like a past employer of mine, got a call at 7am on Saturday, woke me up, it was the supervisor and he says we are laying off X number of guys and your one of em, I said ok, when does it take effect? he says "YESTERDAY"!!

Dirty @#@@# wakes me up to tell me I'm unemployed as of yesterday!

Anyhow, it could be worse

Happy Holidays and Good Luck with the job search.

Fatman...sorry to hear it man. That totally sux. Job hunting is never easy, but stick to it. I left my job over the summer (before they had a chance to let me go) but had another job lined up. Worked for 3 weeks and hated it, so I quit and started my job hunt. Took me about 3 months to get a job. Hope its quicker for you.

Hey do you know anything about boats? Im friends with one of the guys that runs McMillan Marine up there..

Man, now the Tan Terror needs to take a road trip to NY for a huge lawn job. Those rat bastards...

There's always Detroit for work! The DPD needs folks all the time.

Fatman,
Sorry to hear about this - did your area lose its funding? Are you interested in staying at the U of R? I know there are plenty of openings in Pathology & Lab Medicine on the hospital side. Let me know if you are interested - I can get you some info.

You may or may not agree, but I believe that most everything happens for a reason. Almost none of us will look for a better job while we are employed. It isn't until we are forced out of our comfortable situation that we start looking around in a furious effort to improve our lot in life. I believe that this isn't an accident and that better things are in your future. God has plans for you and needs to put you where you are needed.

I do agree, thats the upside to this, I certainly didn't enjoy my job here anymore but its hard to say no to steady income so I got complacent and kept putting off looking for something else. I'm hoping for something better.

mjsjax, I'm interested, any info would be appreciated but I've got no clinical experience, I'm mostly a molecular biologist by trade.
