I'm not surprized. Not very many people want to drive something that huge. Sure, it's cool to look at...but try parking that beast...and filling up the gas tank. Ouch! Not much worse than a full size van though...I guess.
Ford's been saying they were gonna give the Excursion the axe two or three years ago.
Now, it wouldn't hurt my feelings none to the see the Aviator go Tango Uniform, but that's just me.

I'm constantly amazed at how peopel attack the gross ly oversides behemoth commonly referred to as "The Excursion". Some have called it for "Ford Valdez", etcetera, etcetera...
If they took time to actually look at teh stas, they'd see that the Exsursion was only 2 (Count'em two) inches longer than a Ford F-150 Super Crew, and only a few inches wider. I can't see how a few inches here & there makes a vehicle impossible to park.. (The again, I used to paralel park Hum-Vees)
The mirrors made it look huge to the untrained eye- but the Excursion wasn't much larger than a standard F-150, and it is essentially an extended cab F-250 with a camper on it. No largfer than that...
People's ignoance killed the Excursion, meanwhile- like a B-2 Bomber, the Chevy Suburban slides under radar because they don't up-play it's size- althoughh when the Excursion dies, the Chevy will again be the largest ute afloat, er- I mean on the road...

They're just replacing it with a stretched version of the Expedition that was announced a while back.
Most customers don't need a large SUV based on a three-quarter ton chassis (poor ride, etc.), so now the replacement will be more "civilized."
That, plus the Excursion name got the greenies' panties all wadded up. So they drop the name to shut them up as an added benefit.
I can't remmeber if they announced a name for the replacement model but it's not Excursion.

like Dzervit mentioned, this was supposed to happen a couple of years ago, but the extended Expedition was delayed (another R&D postponement due to the financial problems at Ford). So they kept it around as they make about $10,000 per vehicle. It wasn't losing any money.
That and if you only need seating for 5 or 6, a crew cab F250 would do just fine.

You're right, the exursion is not the much bigger than a supercrew f-150. What makes it more difficult to park is the front end. The f-150 has tighter cramp angle on the front wheels meaning that the front wheels can turn to a greater angle with the truck and the truck can turn sharper. The exursions have a solid axle with leaves in the front that diminish that angle even more. That's one of the reasons why they went with coil-overs for the '05 super dutys, it helps soften the ride too.
