**Oochie** Ford recalls 474,000 Escape SUVs

If it's made by man, it can and will be flawed.

DEARBORN, Mich. - Ford Motor Co. said Friday it is recalling about 474,000 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles worldwide because of an accelerator problem that can cause the engine to race.

The automaker said it does not know of any accidents or injuries related to the problem.

The recalled vehicles are from model years 2002 to 2004, and the vast majority are in the United States, Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley said.

In some cases, Kinley said, a liner over the accelerator cable may prevent the engine from returning to idle. Owners will be notified by Ford and can have the cable replaced at no cost.

It's about time. My ex-neighbor had to trade hers off because of this problem. Dealerland treated her like she was crazy. The final straw was when she almost killed a pedestrian with it. Hers was an '02 model.

Well, the Escape isn't a truck and isn't really a Ford, it's a rebadged Mazda. Makes it a little easier to swallow anyway.

At least Ford is doing the right thing by recalling the Escape BEFORE someone gets hurt or worse killed. If it was a Crysler/Dodge they would wait until somebody was hurt or killed. Even then they might not issue a recall. That's ONE thing I don't like about Crysler, they refuse to stand behind what they build.

BTW RockyJSquirrel the Escape was first. The Mazda Tribute is the rebadge here.

at least Ford is issuing it instead of being ordered by the gov't (like dodge) to do the recall.

GOOD JOB FORD

They learned from the firestone recall to take care of the issue
