I think this guy could use some support...
He's got help: Just posted on another news site:
Amputee soldier will get last paycheck, come home
Army Spc. Robert Loria of Middletown will be coming home from Fort Hood within the day couple of days. He's a 27-year-old solider who lost his left arm while fighting in Iraq. The Army apparently said he owned them $2,200 for travel expenses for medical treatment and they refused to release to him is last paycheck of $2,400.
Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Maurice Hinchey jumped right in to assist Loria. Schumer called the Secretary of the Army's office. As the senator was concluding a news conference at Stewart Airport, an aid briefed him that his office had just received word that Loria would be paid and would be coming home.
Prior to hearing the news, Schumer said the Army's position was "a disgrace."
In the meantime, Goshen attorney Michael Sussman, who is a staunch opponent to the war in Iraq, said that he wired Loria the funds for him to return home after he talked with Loria's wife, Christine Loria. "No one abhors the war more than I do, but we cannot ever leave those our nation has sacrificed behind, whether they are our nations, Iraqis or others," Sussman said.

Notice that it mentions that the guy who 'paid' for the soldier to come home is a 'staunch opponent of the war'. Do you think a staunch opponent of the war might possibly tell his anti-Army version of the so-called facts when interviewed by the reporter? And if you were a betting person, would you bet that the personal beliefs of the reporter might come into play as to exactly what he reports and what he leaves out?
In the last 2 years, just how many stories have you seen in the press that display our Armed Forces in a positive light? I highly doubt the authenticity of this story. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying that I don't believe it based on some anti-war dude's story.

I'm confused
My original post and link made no mention of the person who paid the guy's expenses as it hadn't happened at that point. That came in Dz's later post updating the situation.
I think that a staunch anti war advocate paying the expenses of a disabled veteran because the army didn't want to simply proves that you can be against the invasion of Iraq and still support the troops.
What exactly is your problem with that??

I’m glad the guy can afford to come home now. Sad that our young solders don’t get paid enough to be able to put some money away. If fair compensation were paid these guys would be able to have a healthy savings accounts and not have to live paycheck to paycheck. I remember when I was in the service and at an E3 pay along with the little extra for being married, I was only able to afford a one-bedroom house to rent. I also had a small car loan, and no it wasn’t new.
God Bless Our Troops!
