Clint Eastwood vs. John Wayne
Man, ya'll got a tough one (what's with all these comparison posts, by the way). John Wayne IS the original badass, but Clint Eastwood is pretty rough himself, especially in the spaghetti westerns and dirty hairy movies too. I'd have to give the nod to the Duke, but Eastwood is not far behind.
there is no comparison, they are two different generations.
it's like who's the better guitarist Chuck Berry or Hendrix. Hendrix
of course played Chuck Berry tunes. maybe if they both had played the same role at one time, otherwise they both are great.

Love to watch the old John Wayne movie, it was a differnt time in America and the movies. Anyone ever use that John Wayne Toilet paper?
you know the cheap stuff, - rough and tough and dont take chit off of no one.

Clint was a bad **** in that movie where he played as "The Outlaw Josey Wales". A Fi****l of Dollars was a great movie. As was The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. I used to watch old westerns growing up as a kid. Clint Eastwood stands out in my mind more than John Wayne. Heck, I still go around whistling the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly's theme song. You know how it goes...It sounds like a grown man wailing really high...AeeAeeAaaaaa, then it goes...Waa,Waa,Waaaaa. That's the best I can describe it.
Tale of the tape: I found websites that show Duke was 6'4" or 6'4.5". Weight approx. 220 pounds. He was a scholarship football player at USC but had an ankle injury after his freshman year. Big, athletic, tough.
Eastwood is also reportedly 6'4" (surpised me - I figured him for about 6'1" or so). Served in the U.S. Army, so he had some training in hand to hand.
I still gotta go with Duke.

Being that I'm 32, I don't remember a whole lot of John Wayne's movies. I grew up on Eastwoods movies. But, for God's sake don't base Eastwood's machismo or acting ability on a freakin' musical like "Paint your wagon" or the ape movies. What a joke.
I got to agree with peacemaker, you want to see some good eastwood movies (comparable to a Duke western) go rent "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "Fist Full of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More" and one of my favorites "Outlaw Josey Wales".
"You go opening those stitches boy, and I'm going to whoop you with a knotted plow line"

It's definitely a generational thing, like who was better, Shaq or Wilt the Stilt? Unless you've seen both in their prime, you go with what you know.
But I'd have to say The Duke.

Plus, I think John Wayne would more closely line up with my political views.
