Help me update my dads cd collection

For christmas I want to update my dads cd collection, of which most of the albums are older than me. The newest one he has that he likes is the counting crows.

Lets see, he is 49 and a hippie at heart and the following is what is in his changer right now:

Jackson Browne - Saturate before using
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Counting Crows - August and everything after
The Pretenders - After the gold rush

just skimming through his cd case I saw:

Tom Petty
Mike and the Mechanics
Every Beatles album
The Cars
Dave Mason
Led Zepplin

Ok so based on his current likes can anyone suggest some cds he may like?

thanks

Anything by Steely Dan

and while on the subject of the dan . . .

Donald Fagen's "Kamakiriad" is one of the best ever, also his album "The Nightfly" is great

What . . . No Pink Floyd?

(Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Final Cut, and of course The Wall)

If he's a real Hippy . . . Spirit's : The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is a keeper . . .

The Who (Quadrophenia is always on the top of my list as is Who's Next)

(Hey . . . MROLDV8 . . . chime in any time here . . . )

The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Gues WHo, Cream, The Kinks, Rod Stewart, Bowie, Humble Pie, Procol Harum, James Taylor, and on and on and on . . . .

MR at your cervix. (Sorry...couldn't resist.)

OK bigd999, here's some other must-haves for your dad;

Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland",
the Chambers Brothers..."Best Of",
"Fragile" and "Close To The Edge" by Yes,
the self-titled album by Shuggy Otis,
"Chicago Transit Authority" (Chicago's first album),
early Hawkwind, (A long-shot)
Iron Butterfly with "Inna Godda Divita",
Golden Ear Ring with "Radar Love",
Boz Scaggs with "Dyna Flow",
Manfred Mann..."Best Of",
the Eagles..."Best Of" 1 and 2,
Stevie Wonder..."Musicquarium...(something)",
Crosby, Stills & Nash...first two albums,
"Super Session" with Al Kooper,
and Blood Sweat & Tears "Best Of".

Boy, that was fun! Now I have to get my headphones, a bag of M&M Peanuts and sit beneath my Mr. Natural poster and listen.

MR

maybe,

blind melon
the mavericks (trampoline)
r.e.m. (murmur or reckoning)
clem snide (the ghost of fashion)
the stone roses (self titled)

and this might be a real stretch, but check out a band called
cave-in (jupiter album)

to me, jupiter is like pink floyd on steroids.

took me a while to appreciate how great that cd is (cave-in).

Dirty Vegas...self titled.

Earthjuice..."Volume 1".
or
Jamiroquai..."Synkronized", "Traveling Without Moving", or "A Funk Odyssey".

Ok, I keep jumping back and forth sifting through all the suggestions, but so far

Kenny Wayne Sheppard - I think this is right on, forgot about this one. Definitely putting this on my list to buy him
Train - Dead on again! I think he'll dig it
David Gray - Sounds like he might like it, putting this on the list too!
Jack Johnson - Hard to tell, I know I like him and Im pretty sure he will. May just chance it and get this one too. Not sure which album to get tho
Blind Melon - Yeah, this has enough roots in classic rock I think that he'll like it

I'ma keep lookin tho, if you think of anything else post away

edited to add blind melon
