I work in the same industry as you but on CAT equipment. The money is good and the work can be fun or a challenge, working on big stuff is always cool and then testing it after is awesome.

At $30,000 each, I don't think you want them.

Thumbs up

Goat herding aint a bad occupation.
Fresh air, outdoors, no bossman around.

You can keep those city jobs.
The worse one I had was at a furniture store.
I worked out back, sucking farts out of used couches.

Some of my other jobs:

I used to be a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.

I worked in a blanket factory, but it folded.

I was a welder at the submarine repairyard, until it went under.

I had a job in a soup kitchen, but I got canned.

I was a cobbler's apprentice and he gave me the boot.

I bagged groceries until I was sacked.

I was a member of the Flying Walendas Trapeze Act, but I was let go.

I really appreciate the suggestions... With how often you hear of so many people not caring for their jobs, its refreshing to hear so many of you out there that do enjoy your jobs. I had considered joining the military several years ago when I graduated high-school to get into their emergency fire rescue program, as I wanted to become a firefighter at the time, but was not able to do so due to a rotator-cuff (shoulder) injury that I received playing football in highschool. Due to the physical demands of being a fire-fighter, I feared my shoulder injury would prevent me from being able to be a fire-fighter in the long run. I've been in the IT industry every since originally doing webpage design, and most recently helpdesk/desktop support for a corporation in the hospitality industry. For whatever reason, the marine industry sounds very intrigueing to me (I looked into joining the coast guard when I was out of highschool aswell) however I do not know that terribly much about it as far as what jobs are out there and what background is necessary to get started. I do have a family and would not want to have a job where I would be gone all the time. but wouldn't mind doing some travel. The aviation and travel industries also sound very intrigueing to me, although both industries have been hurting recently. I heard someone else last week speak high of the advertising industry, which sound interesting aswell. Ohwell... Maybe by the time I turn 30 in a few years I will know what I'm going to do when I grow up.

Where did you do your time on the trail? I was on the trail at Ft. Sill from '99-'01.

Wow, I'm starting to feel better about my job already... As always, your input is greatly appreciated Raoul! What kinda degree did you get for that goat-herding gig?

You'll find that quite a few graduates ending up working outside their degree field.
My Major was a BS in Domestic Fowl (chicken farming).
I ended up with a career in Goat Management.

(if I hadn't slept in class, I would have known these weren't chickens early on)

They should have put you out on the salesfloor after that, you must have been full of hot "air".

A salesman? NEVER!
That would have taken away the only thing I had left.
My dignity.

Don't forget the freight...

My father is over maintenance at a large strip mine here in Kentucky and commonly has to purchase items along these lines... he's told me stories about spending as much on shipping an item as he spent on it...

Yellow iron is FAR from cheap!

Oh yeah... I've been INSIDE one of the bed lift cylinders on one of those things... urr... maybe that was a 777... I can't remember. D-11 ripper tilt cylinder came through the back glass one time when I was transporting it. It almost went out the front windshield... talk about pooing' your pants!

We had a parts runner taking a cylinder to the hyd shop and it fell out the back of the truck. He didn't know. luckily there was a cop in his crown vic coming along the road not paying attention and hit it and high centered on it. The car was all tore up, the cylinder was OK but they impounded it. the runner was let go.
