What would be the difference in picture quality between the sharp aquos and the toshiba if the broadcast to both was high definition, and is the sharp worth 3x the price

I've been an "audiophile" for many years and anything with *****, dials and buttons is OK with me. It's a sickness.

I have a Sony 43" rear projection in my home theater now, and would love to have an LCD or Plasma...but I just can't justify the cost right now. I recently blew a 27" CRT in the bedroom where I have a second DD home theater system, and sure wanted the LCD...somewhere around 24" would have been fine. But, anything that size still cost at least $900, and besides there's nothing to watch, network-wise of on the dish...unless I want to pay more money for the service.

So...I'm still gonna wait.

Jim

I haven't seen any review of the Toshiba yet. But they make great TVs in general, almost always highly rated. Usually need to be calibrated, though, for best effect. My 50" HDTV is a Toshiba.

Calibrated correctly, I don't know if the Sharp is worth 3X the price, but those Aquos TVs look good once calibrated.

You can get a calibration DVD for around $20. Get Video Essentials or Avia.

One thing the calibration does, it has you lower the contrast significantly. So you can play games without as much worry about screen burn-in.

My Toshiba is a first-generation HDTV, got it right when they came out so I've had it for several years now. Been playing PS2 on it since I got it, no burn-in at all.

It really depends on what your needs are.

A brand-new 30" Sharp LCD would cost 3x more, but you can get a nice factory sealed refurb w/ an added 3yr warrenty for around 2x the price.

Now, for the premium you get: 1/2 the weight, less power consumption, small footprint (wall moutable), and PC inputs. Also, if your a gamer - nearly zero burn-in risk like tubes & plasmas.

Whatever floats your boat!

Although Toshiba makes great stuff, they also sold the design for our top secret submarine propellers to the Russians. I have a son in the Navy serving on the SSN Alexandria, a nuclear attack sub.

I won't buy Toshiba crap!

Wasn't it the machinery to make those propellers? Something like a 9-axis milling machine or something like that, I believe back in the 80's. As I recall, a bunch of senior Toshiba executives were arrested, but I can't remember what penalties they faced.

I see your point. I also "boycott" certain companies based on my opinion of their business practices.
