Wonder why Ford never built this???

Thunder-

Fast AND practical? Why would that sell?

Everytime I went to get a Lightning, my wife hit me with the "Practicality" argument. I couldn't really argue- especially after the baby was coming... Hard to get three people (one in an infant carrier) in a Lightning. If the Expy had had the 380 HP engine option; ah heck- why not 400? That would have sold like hot cakes, as long as they weren't $50,000.

If you asked me, the "L" was overpriced for a lowered f-150 flareside with a big motor option.

if you bought a single cab, flare side 2wheel drive with the 5.4 AND then turned around and beefed up the rear axle, tranny, and purchased a supercharger with intercooler/air exchanger. Pluss wheels/tires, suspencion, and ground effects. You would easily be past $30,000 easier to just buy the L and have a factory warrenty.

Not sure why they didn't make the Thunder, the old body expy might have been to top heavy and deemed unsafe when combined with 380hp.

I don't know if I jacked this pic from your site or not Jordan- hopefully I didn't; the thunder just crossed my mind because Truck Trend was building one; but I couldn't find there's.

If you want to post pics, just upload'em to your gallery, then grab (cut & paste) the picture location- then paste it into a reply window, bracketed on the left by: [ img ] and on the right by [ /img ], (remove spaces) and ta-daaa!

Your picture will be shown!

Thanks for posting that pic of my truck.

While I don't have the lower body kit, they sure look similar in Black with L wheels...

Personally, I think the older Expy's look better- but the new one's ride better, even though they're less roomy, (Got robbed of leg room up front, and in the back seat, to make the 3rd row roomier.)

In my wife's older Expy, no backseaters (2nd row) ever complained of not enough leg room. Now my wife, all 5' 2" of her, complains about my seat positioning. (I must still be getting taller!) 6'3", here I come!!!

Every decade or so Detroit manufactures a truly mind blowing machine. The Lightning has earned a position high on that list.
It is far more than a lowered, big motored f-150 flareside.
You would have to own one to fully understand the passion the owners of these trucks feel.
Take a look at the post count in the Lightning Forum. Tonight it sits at over six-hundred thousand.
I could go on and on....
But I won't...

Its easy to get 3 in a Lightning. My wife, son (who was 13 months at the time) and I took a 1300 mile round trip in mine. Had the bed full of stuff and still got 16.5 mpg.
