This Country
The only thing i can tell you about your complaint is move. If your unhappy paying high sales, property, and local taxes get out of your area and into another one. Taxes are a fact of life in our society. Bush is giving us tax cuts, great. Where do you think that money comes from? Its gonna need to be paid back eventually. As far as i know theres no trees in DC crapping out money. One president lowers taxes, the next raises them to balance things out. Your gonna get higher taxes eventually so making that the basis for your vote is silly.
It's a FACT that when the government gets a smaller piece of a larger pie it receives more revenue than if they are taking a larger piece of a smaller pie. A tax cut promotes growth in the economy (bigger pie) and distributes the burden over a greater number of people that are all paying lower taxes; it is not a “zero sum” in the sense that if you cut taxes here you have to get it from somewhere else because the economy can’t grow anymore. That’s just rediculas the United States economy is the greatest economic engine in the world and will grow with popper stimulation (tax cuts).
A greater number of people all paying lower taxes provide more revenue for the government; people have more of there own money to spend as they see fit. It's a Win Win!
I'm just one of the fifty eight million (51% of voting public) "fools" who voted for Bush, so what could I know?
I think it's interesting. I see a similar picture but I see a radical "progressive liberal" movement that is hell bent on having all the power in this country and has proven it will stop at nothing to get it. These people are so sure that they and only they, know what this country needs. A majority of the voting public voted for Bush but that's just because more than half of the voting public are stupid, or fools? I think that's a pretty bold assesment. I think too many people have been watching documovies and listening to too much radical "progressive liberal" talk radio, not to mention reading too much into the New York Times.
For the record, I consider myself a pretty average guy. I would guess of the fifty eight million "fools" that voted for Bush a majority are pretty average too.
-This may surprise you a bit but I don't believe in god. I don't believe in heaven or hell. I do believe in the theory of evolution. I don't have a problem with people being involved in organized religions and worshiping whom ever they wish.
-I am pro choice. I don't want to see abortion rights taken away. I do believe that it's necessary to have standards though and I think that establishing those standards is an ongoing event.
-I am for stem cell research. I think that rather than jump into fetal stem cell research at the expence of the tax payers, we should procede with caution. Contrary to popular belief there is already federally funded stem cell research happening today. I'd rather we didn't just dump a bunch of our tax dollars into somthing that "might" prove beneficial. I think more progress can be made with the tools avaliable today assuring success down the road.
So, you might think "this guy really is a fool, he is Kerry material and has been so brainwashed that he doesn't even know it!".
Now, don't forget, I consider myself a pretty average guy.
-I believe that defending our country and our freedom is essential. I was profoundly affected by what happened on 9/11/01. No, I'm not "using" 9/11. I'm not exploiting 9/11 for a hidden agenda. I was absolutely changed by what happened on 9/11. There is no way that I can even be as much of a fool now as I, and the rest of the people in this country were before 9/11. Before 9/11 we all had our heads up our a$$. I'm glad that has changed for some of us.
-I hear a lot of talk about an Iraq war. What I see is a war on terror, and terrorists. This war does not specify a particular enemy, like Bin Laden, Al Quedia, the Talaban or even Afganistan. It is a war against people who do things like hijack planes and fly them into buildings to kill innocent civilians and disrupt the entire country. If people think that the way to fight terrorists is to pick them off one by one, I would have to dissagree. I believe that by removing a dictator from Iraq, a dictator who gave the entire world the impression that he was out for power and would use whatever means necessary to achieve that power, it will be more possible to someday bring stability to Iraq and to that region of the world. This would give those countries the ability to keep terrorist groups from forming, keeping them and us safer. It would give them the oportunity to take part in the global economy. They don't have to be like us, but they could live their lives the way they want, better.
-I hear people say that the economy sucks but that's not what I see every day. I don't live in an affluent area. I don't make a ton of money. I make enough to get the things I need and some of the things I want. Do I want more? Sure I do, but I realize that I will have to continue to work hard if I'm to get the things I want. I think that there are many people out there who want things but don't realize or don't want to work hard to get the things they want. There are even people out there that don't have some of the things they may need. The government might not be giving them as much of the tax payers dollars. Do you think some of these people could have done things differently and not ended up in the position they find themselves in? Should the hard working tax payers shoulder the burden of all that make poor choices? I don't think so. So I'm a fool? I acknowlege that many hard working people have lost their jobs as well. I think that is quite unfortunate and do believe that the tax payers dollars should be used to help these people get what they need to continue to support themselves and their families. Our economy isn't all that predictable and never has been. The events of the past four years haven't been all that condusive to a growing economy. You can blame it on the current administration if you want but I think that people should take more responsibility for themselves. I'm not out here making a ton of money but I feel assured that I can and will have a job. I'm in a field that assures job stability, perhaps job stability and not a huge income are things that people should consider when looking for a career.
-moral= of or relating to principals of right and wrong. conforming to a standard of right behavior. capable of right and wrong action. I'm not sure how people come to the conclusion that if someone mentions morals they are referring to religion. Remember, I'm not at all religious but I do believe morals are important. When we have a president who lies under oath about having sex with an intern, when "progressive liberals" on the public air waves refer to our president as a "douche bag" and their callers are saying things like "on Wednesday morning I woke up and said to my twelve year old daughter, F**K BUSH!, when reality TV shows are the most watched things on TV and there is a big uproar about restricting what words can be said on the radio I don't see a problem with reviewing what we consider moral. I think it would be a good idea to have some kind of "standard" in certian arenas. I don't really understand why people object to this so much. Maybe because it might infringe on the rights of gays or other minorities? This is a problem. Yes, I said "is". So what do we do? Well, I for one think that we should not ammend the constitution to ban gay merrage. I think that this is one of the many things that needs to be reviewed. I also don't think it's a good idea for judges to order legislators to come up with laws. I think that we need to be the ones that contact our reps and tell them what we think. I guess it's easier to complain about it though.
I apologise for my foolishness. I'm really not sure how I was able to think up all this stuff with out someone telling me. I did though.

To the citizens of the United States of America :-
In the light of your failure to elect a proper President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today. Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchial duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories. Except Utah, which she does not fancy. Your new prime minister (The Right Honourable Tony Blair, MP for the 97.85% of you who have until now been unaware that there is a world outside your borders) will appoint a minister for America without the need for further elections.
Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:
1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium". Check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'favour' and 'neighbour', skipping the letter 'U' is nothing more than laziness on your part. Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters.
You will end your love affair with the letter 'Z' (pronounced 'zed' not 'zee' and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise". You will learn that the suffix 'burgh is pronounced 'burra' e.g. Edinburgh. You are welcome to respell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you can't cope with correct pronunciation.
Generally, you should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. Look up "vocabulary". Using the same twenty seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. Look up "interspersed". There will be no more 'bleeps' in the Jerry Springer show. If you're not old enough to cope with bad language then you shouldn't have chat shows. When you learn to develop your vocabulary then you won't have to use bad language as often.
2. There is no such thing as "US English". We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize".
3. You should learn to distinguish the English and Australian accents. It really isn't that hard. English accents are not limited to ****ney, upper-class twit or Mancunian (Daphne in Frasier).
You will also have to learn how to understand regional accents - Scottish dramas such as "Taggart" will no longer be broadcast with subtitles. While we're talking about regions, you must learn that there is no such place as Devonshire in England. The name of the county is "Devon". If you persist in calling it Devonshire, all American States will become "shires" e.g. Texasshire, Floridashire, Louisianashire.
4. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as the good guys. Hollywood will be required to cast English actors to play English characters.
British sit-coms such as "Men Behaving Badly" or "Red Dwarf" will not be re-cast and watered down for a wishy-washy American audience who can't cope with the humour of occasional political incorrectness.
5. You should relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen", but only after fully carrying out task 1. We would not want you to get confused and give up half way through.
6. You should stop playing American "football". There is only one kind of football. What you refer to as American "football" is not a very good game. The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside your borders may have noticed that no one else plays "American" football. You will no longer be allowed to play it, and should instead play proper football. Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is a difficult game.
Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which is similar to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like nancies). We are hoping to get together at least a US rugby sevens side by 2005.
You should stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the 'World Series' for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.15% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. Instead of baseball, you will be allowed to play a girls' game called "rounders" which is baseball without fancy team strip, oversized gloves, collector cards or hotdogs.
7. You should declare war on Quebec and France, using nuclear weapons if they give you any merde. The 97.85% of you who were not aware that there is a world outside your borders should count yourselves lucky. The Russians have never been the bad guys. "Merde" is French for "****".
You will no longer be allowed to own or carry guns. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous in public than a vegetable peeler. Because we don't believe you are sensible enough to handle potentially dangerous items, you will require a permit if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.
8. July 4th is no longer a public holiday. November 2nd will be a new national holiday, but only in England. It will be called "Indecisive Day".
9. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and it is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean. All road intersections will be replaced with roundabouts. You will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables.
Roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.
10. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips. Fries aren't even French, they are Belgian though 97.85% of you (including the guy who discovered fries while in Europe) are not aware of a country called Belgium.
Those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps". Real chips are thick cut and fried in animal fat.
The traditional accompaniment to chips is beer which should be served warm and flat.
Waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.
11. As a sign of penance 5 grams of sea salt per cup will be added to all tea made within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this quantity to be doubled for tea made within the city of Boston itself.
12. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all, it is lager. From November 1st only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer", and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager".
The substances formerly known as "American Beer" will henceforth be referred to as "Near-Frozen Knat's Urine", with the exception of the product of the American Budweiser company whose product will be referred to as "Weak Near-Frozen Knat's Urine". This will allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in Pilsen, Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion.
13. From December 1st the UK will harmonise petrol (or "Gasoline" as you will be permitted to keep calling it until April 1st 2005) prices with the former USA. The UK will harmonise its prices to those of the former USA and the Former USA will, in return, adopt UK petrol prices (roughly $6/US gallon - get used to it).
14. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.
15. Please tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us crazy.
Tax collectors from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all revenues due (backdated to 1776).
Thank you for your cooperation.
"American Football" isn't popular outside of America b/c the rest of the world lacks the ability to appreciate the strategy of the game. They need some thing easier to follow, much like small children need food that is easier to digest b/c their digestive system's can't handle real food. Soccer is so much simpler; it’s better for you that way, less thinking and more time to riot. If I was forced to watch that boring crap like that all the time I might want to join in a riot on a regular basis too.
Wow! This is actually a cool political thread! (most of these threads on other boards immediately become violent!!)
Nice to see Kerry and Bush supporters here. The election is over. I was a Kerry supporter up until Nov 3rd. When Bush is sworn is as the president early next year I will support him for roughly the next 3.9 years.
I'll vote for the best guy, be s/he republican, democrat, libertarian or rastafarian, and then I'll support the winner.
A couple of observations.
1) More people voted for John Kerry than Ronald Reagan.
2) The odds of being the victim of any terrorist attack in america are so remote they can barely be considered possible. When you hear people say "there is no terrorist threat" this is what they mean. The statistical likelyhood of you being involved in one in any way, shape or form is negligible--you're more likely to die of just about anything else you can think of. Think about our execution of the 'war on terrorism' now.

I dislike soccer too, certainly is boring.

The Presidential election results truly leave me with an emptiness in my heart. How can an educated country such as the United States of America, elect an individual whose main political tactic was the use of fear. Bush has done nothing to earn the endorsment of any state in this country based on his previous 4 year record other than be Republican. Americans allowed themselves to be painted into an "it's us against the world" corner and somehow that meant that changing presidents would show weakness and give terrorists an advantage..
The disappointment I feel today as I follow election news coverage leaves me feeling the way a disappointed parent would feel if their child was caught cheating or stealing. You have such high hopes for people to actually investigate and research their choices for leadership, but many do not. They would rather read the labels on their lunch to make sure they aren't eating too many carbs than actually find out what each candidate stands for beyond the commercials that they run or mud they throw.
Anyone that voted for George W. Bush based solely on a terrorism or moral basis, is a fool. This is not a man that has made this country safer by any stretch of the imagination. Provoking an entire region by infiltrating a country that we found no link to 9/11 has put our country at greater risk. Invading Iraq without cause and virtually abandoning Afghanistan has had huge effect on the world; other countries worry about our foreign policy, our willingness to goto war with no evidence giving cause for it. Our footing in this global community has slipped, and now it's officially every American's fault. The re-election of George W. Bush reflects on this country the same way a dirty diaper reflects on a child, except this time it was no accident or loophole that awarded him the White House.
On the basis of morals, Bush should have lost. No President has changed religions more. Bush has been Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Catholic. He is ProLife but the State of Texas executed more prisoners under Bush's leadership than in any other governorship in Texas. How can moral Catholics overlook that truth. The man ran a dirty campaign, any President that calls into question any Americans service in the military, especially a service record as distinguished as John Kerry's cannot be considered morally clean.
American's that believe "We fight them over there, so we don't have to over here" probably are all in line to own ocean front properly in Arizona. You must understand that even though we are in another country with borders, we are fighting a terrorist entity that has no borders. If you have no defined home to defend, you are not bound by the same ties that we were/are bound to after 9/11. You cannot fall into the mindset that these people fight the same type of war as our foes have in the past. Deploying our National Guard to international places leaves us vulnerable and despite what our President calls it, it looks very much like a backdoor draft to me.
Military Draft. I know Bush came out and said he would not reinstitute the draft, but I ask you to look at our current Iraq situation while taking into account what his campaign has said concerning this conflict:1.. We are already recalling people whose tours of duty have been up, requiring them to deploy to Iraq in record numbers.
2.. The Allied Commanding General has said from the beginning that we do not have the manpower for ground operations. Rather than try to gain support from other nations, we went into Iraq with a unilateral force. You can't tell me that Poland, Australia, and England are a strong alliance. Here's a fact for you, the state of Texas has more troops in Iraq than any other coalition partner.
3.. This administration stating that we will not pull out of Iraq until this objective is achieved.
What is our objective? We are fighting a group of people that will not stop their offensive, take a look at the Israeli/Palestinian conflict that has been raging before I was alive; the Iraqi conflict is turning into that type of situation and is that important to the people that live in that country. Make no mistake about it, this president has given us a Vietnam for a new generation. We have soldiers riding in HumVee's with no armor, and at best a weak coalition to share the burden.
Our economy is down, drug-costs & healthcare costs are up, quality of air & environment are down. What has W done to earn your vote other than telling you that a change in leadership would make us seem weaker to our enemies. Our enemies would be more afraid if we showed the ability to create strong alliances, lead them with conviction, not religious reasoning. George W. Bush leaves me with an impression that he has "ascended" to the office of President, not been elected. That is a problem. The majority of the people that voted for Bush thought that having morals was the most important factor in this election, I think their view of morals is a bit sketchy at best.
You cannot lead a country and govern it based on your religious values when your fellow Americans do not all value the same religious teachings that you do. Going to church is a good thing, but it should not be considered moral. There are plenty of people that goto church on Sunday but live Monay through Saturday as a completely different person. If I read my history book correctly, this is why our founding fathers left Great Britain to come to America because they didn't agree with the King's ideology and religious beliefs. Why have we seemingly become what we originally left to avoid?
**** Cheney, Halliburton, the Saudi Prince, the search (or lack there of) for Osama bin Laden, and this administrations inability to admit and own up when they have been wrong. I'm not expecting them to says "we're sorry, we had no business in Iraq." What I do expect is an explanation of why they didn't listen to our own intelligence, why we didn't have a plan for Iraq after Baghdad fell.
Israeli intelligence is what we based this war on. If China had given us the same intelligence about North Korea, do you think we would be in North Korea? We are in Iraq for two reasons. Bush needed something more palpable than Afghanistan to create a legacy for himself, and Iraqi oil. While Bush is president, we will not invade North Korea, we will not address Iran and their creation of nuclear weapons eventhough those countries created a far graver threat than Iraq; why do you think that is?
Those are my reasons for not voting for Bush, that doesn't begin to touch on why Kerry would have been a better choice. Republicans says he's a flip-flopper. He voted for a bill giving the President the authority to declare war if he deemed necessary as a last resort. What Kerry voted against was giving the President an open checkbook to goto war, and he's not the only Senator to vote against that bill. The Republicans did their best to come up with as many catchy wordplays as they could during this election, and this country was dim enough to not sift through that. Where politicians are involved, it's never good versus evil; you should pick the man that best suits the current domestic & global situations we face. A President that isn't willing to share the wealth in Iraq and therefore can't create an alliance to help save American lives is not our best foot forward.
The only thing that I take solace in, is that Bush now must try to clean up this **** storm he has created, this is probably the first time in his life that he'll be held responsible for his errors. Here's hoping that you and I are not held equally responsible for his shortcomings.
Good luck to you and me, we're going to need it

Good luck to you and me, we're going to need it
I've been saving this for a special moment. Congratulations.

This post was a friendly one and not intended to insult you, if you are insulted then i do sincerely apologise. But if you wish to get into the technicallities of American football, British Rugby is much faster, less starting and stopping, and they dont were any body armour (which i think is silly).
I dislike soccer too, certainly is boring.

Just so you don't think Americans can't appreciate Rugby I'm posting this picture for you, see if you recognize someone (yeah I know, I'm an a$$hole).

Could you lay out the end game for me if you can actually see it?
I envision a major theme of the 2008 presidential election being who can best get us out of Iraq. The winner will still need another two years to keep that campaign promise which would mean complete withdrawal around 2010.
All Bush has said is they won't be there one day more than necessary. Since the Iraq War is the War on Terror/911, how can it be "truely coming to an end"?
What is with all the whinny LIBERALS lately.
Damn, I know they would like to completely delete the First and Second amendment from the Constitution now they want to completely eliminate free elections and the peoples right to vote for their leader.
Sounds to me like many, not all, but many liberals would love to see America become a communist country where only a few if that are responsible for choosing the leader, ruler.
LISTEN UP YOU WHINNY LIBERALS out there, America spoke and the MAJORITY of them set the course for the future. They told YOU losers they are tired of the doom and gloom, they told you LOSERS they are tired of all your scare tactics, going to starve the children, going to kill grandma and grandpa and any number of other scare tactics the liberals have used for DECADES, they told you LOSERS that they don’t want some puppet form Europe leading our great country so they elected a leader and not YOUR puppet Kerry, a weak coward man who lacks vision, wisdom and any type of leadership skills.
SOME HOPE FOR YOU WHINNY LOSERS OUT THERE…
Even though your boy LOST you can have hope, you can have some happiness that the man that did get elected to be President for another 4 years is someone YOU DO AGREE WITH.
Kerry agreed with everything President Bush does. Only problem is Kerry would go back on forth on his beliefs where President Bush NEVER did. So you got the person you voted for except the actual person in office NEVER changes his mind…
You Kerry supporters are so damn funny they should make a comedy after your boy, actually they did, they had a show in the 60’s or 70’s it was called Flipper…
Those of you from anywhere other then America, particularly Europe, GET OVER IT, your opinion DON’T count in American polices and politics, if we had wanted to be an extremely weak nation we would study the polices and actions of France, Germany and many other European nations.
I mean think about it my foreign friends, if President Bush was NOT in office your LIBERITY and FREEDOM would be at stake here since you can NOT defend yourselves…

I'm sure that GWB phot was taken while he was a Yale, maybe after a skull and bones meeting with brother Kerry. I guess they can't have cheerleaders at soccer games, that might increase the riot factor even higher!
