Unhappy A "ding"!

She was a week old Thursday. FINALLY a nice sunny day to clean her (only took me about seven hours!!!) and while I was waxing her I found a ding on the top of the driver's side right fender. No paint was missing, but STILL!!!

Granted, I only noticed it because the reflection from the paint job made it obvious there was an imperfection there...

What's normal for the first week of mileage on a truck? I just broke 600 and it seems kinda steep... Just can't keep from driving her!

Congrats on the new truck! But she is STILL a truck, and trucks get dinged more than anything. Just look at it as a "beauty mark"....gives it some character....ya know?!

Yea, 600 miles in one week is a bit excessive, but when the new "wears off" I'd say you'll drive her quite a bit less!

Again, congrats, and enjoy the ride!

With 600 miles on her it could very well be a ding but the top of the fender is an odd place for one. I'd say a rock chip but paint would most likely be missing in that case. Are you sure it wasn't there when you bought the truck? My truck has 2 what I call "Factory Flaws". One is a small outward pointed ding on front passenger quarter panel the other is not really a dent, more like depression on the top of the truck. Neither one is extremely noticeable so I didn't raise a stink over them but they've been there from the get go and when we bought the truck it only had 8 miles on it.

you'll drive it less if your concerned about gas prices Certainly kept my joy riding down to a minimum lately.

I've been lucky...four years and no door dings. However, when my truck was about six months old I watched a tree limb crack-off during a wind storm and come sailing down...whack..right on the hood! All the wax in the world couldn't have stopped that aluminum hood from denting. There's a good body shop near me, and the guy did a fantastic job, but sometimes stuff just happens. Now I have a rock ding on top of the hood...sounds kinda like yours. I say, if it bothers you, take it to Dent Busters, they do great work.

I bought my 99 Expy used but with no kind of chips, dents or dings. I had it for 3 days and was driving from Alabama to Texas when an 18 wheeler kicked up something the looked like a 2' x 2' piece of card board or so I thought, cause when the truck went by it was kicked up about 5' higher than the trailer. It then turned sideways and started spinning like a buzz saw but since I thought it was cardboard I did not pay much attention to it, or did I do anything to avoid because I was in traffic and moving about 85 MPH. Then BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I look over and I had no passenger side mirror. Turned out to be ply wood. It hit the mirror so hard that the plastic from the mirror actually left marks (chips) in the window. Only damage to the door was a big swirl mark.

My very first new vehicle was a Toyota 4X4 back in 1983. I parked it late in the evening (THE FIRST NIGHT) and early the next morning there was a scratch over the front ldriver's side fender - yup, I was PO'd. Shook it off and went on, what can you do? It's gonna happen.

How about swinging by the dealership and showing your salesman? Tell him that you finally got a good day to clean it and noticed the "imperfection", it might be something simple for a good body man to fix...
