Thread or Post Race

I joined this site back in the summer to learn about my truck and to gain info on mods. Since then i have seen thread races and post races . 15 million post's is getting you where ?? This site has some great people and some with the knowledge to really help other's . I still enjoy a thread with someone's new mod or even where they took there truck over the weekend. Everyone here has a truck they enjoy some different then others and that's the great thing in AMERICA no one has to be the same . I'm personally coming into THANKSGIVING and i would like to pray that every family may have a extra loaf of bread for their children to eat. I also hope they have a job to help with the high cost of energy to heat and light their homes. If they do not have a home i hope the PRESIDENT will get them jobs so they may be able to live the AMERICAN dream. But as a uaw member i see more and more jobs going over seas DO YOU ??? Now in my trade you dont buy cars then im UNEMPLOYED along with every car part manufacturer in AMERICA and anywhere that requires money to purchase their items. NAFTA 1 AMERICAN crate goes out 4 IMPORT crates come in . MATH IS NOT THAT HARD TO DO?? RMFR

Hmm... definately hard to follow but, even more definite is that it's totally unrelated to 2004/2005 issues...

Off to #55 (that's General Discussion FYI)

Do you every shop at Wal-Mart, K-mart or Home Depot? Do you ever shop at any discount stores?

If you answer yes then STOP WHINNING because it is people like YOU who are sending jobs overseas my friend.

Do the math, you get some hefty wages my friend as does anyone in a union, and if you are NOT putting your money where you mouth is as in buying ONLY NAME brand MADE IN AMERICA goods you have voted with your money to send jobs overseas.

I can’t for the life of me understand people who whine about jobs going overseas and acting like it is someone else’s fault and especial one person, the President is responsible. He is not, neither was Clinton when TRUCK LOADS of jobs left America.

You, me and every other American citizen is responsible for jobs going overseas because we want the highest paying jobs but want the cheapest possible products to buy…

Yes corporations are greedy as well and want to make profits as well but they are NOT solely responsible it takes two to tangle, big business and its workers, we are ALL responsible…

Folks:

There are a few rays of hope although as Burt indicates, you most likely will end up paying for it.

My business is near several technical colleges and in close proximity to office complexes where a lot of IT people lost their jobs a few years back to India, the Phillipines etc. Many of them are customers and they are telling me that they are getting rehired in at least some numbers. Seems that people who own hardware and software and have problems are getting fed up with trying to deal with someone with an artificial knowledge of English (and you cannot use slang or local terms, ever) and who seem to be always reading from a script that may or may not have to do with their particular problem.

In my case, what used to take 5 to max 10 minutes to solve now takes an average of 45 minutes and the solution rate is about 30% which I religiously report to the companies involved when they send a quality control e mail questionaire after the attempt to solve the problem.

Also having to do with my store, 85% of what we sell comes from China, South Korea, Thailand or Vietnam. I own a retail hobby store, by the way. In the last 3-4 months, a number of our suppliers have gone through some pretty sizable reorganizations and some of the larger ones are bringing tooling, dies, injection machines and the like back to the US. That is, if they can get them out which is a problem in China. From what they tell me, the lower up front cost is being eroded by problems with communication, financial issues, transportation tie ups and a host of cultural and business practice differences.

As an example, Lionel trains had a run of what are called "starter sets" that were themed after the movie "Polar Express". It was an immediate sell out and was gone in October. Due in part to some or all of the above mentioned problems, they cannot get any more manufactured and delivered to the US until February which essentially might as well be 3 years from now instead of 3 months. I, for sure, will not be buying more than a couple whereas I had 120 on order from this Spring and got 11.

As a parting note, while I cannot control where my merchandise comes from I can control what I buy and wherever possible I buy items made in the US. I am known in several local stores for my checking tags or boxes for "country of origin" labels. Sort of become a hobby of mine.
Bill
