Question The "NEW" Ford??

Is it me or is SVT taking a back seat to Mr. Shelby?

Do we really need a Shelby Ford Expedition more than an SVT Lightning?

Ford and Carroll Shelby

More than 42 years after their original agreement to produce performance cars, Ford Motor Company and Carroll Shelby are back together producing production and concept cars. Shelby, a former race car driver and creator of numerous collectable performance cars returned to collaboration with Ford in the design of the 2005 Ford GT.

Shelby worked closely with the Ford Design team and Advanced Product Creation group to develop the Ford Shelby Cobra concept car. In addition, Shelby will produce a high-performance, limited edition, Shelby Ford Expedition, for sale through select dealers next year.

From what I have heard from my STVOA connections, Carrol Shelby wanted Ford to drop SVT and take over, and have his name on all the SVT products. Shelby's reasoning was that HE started this way back with the Shelby Mustangs and Ford was the one to ask him back. This was not taken too kindly by SVT and since they are an extension of Ford, this was not going to fly. I have heard two things since this, 1 - Shelby won't work with Ford as long as SVT is around, and 2 - Ford is trying to give Shelby his own product line.
This is all hearsay though, take it for what's it's worth. IMO, I think Shelby will NOT work with SVT, and FORD won't abanon SVT.

Just sit back and enjoy the show

I find this info irritating as hell. So, does this mean that the Lightning just got thrown out to the dogs, for a POS expedition?

Coming up with a new gas hog, just as gas prices are about to forbid owning one, sounds Ford to me....LOL.

Recently HDDiscovery ran a show showing the development of the Cobra Concept vehicle. They heavily dramatized the return of Carrol Shelby but he didn't even see the car until it was completed.

No disrespect to Mr. Shelby but I really wonder what contributions he is making other than "branding". Shelby has been synonomous with performance for years but it was very clear that he had little to do with that particular vehicle during it's development.

EXACTLY

Damn marketing ploy to exploit the Shelby name before the old timer is pushing up daisy's.

Hang in there SVT, Shelby is old and won'y be along much longer.

And for the cobra... I saw that sam episode., and he didn't have ANYTHING to do with the car until they pulled the cover off it. then he drove it around and it was all a marketing ploy.

That pretty much says it right there...

On a side note about marketing ploy... check out the HEMI dodge claims to be putting out... see if you can get some specs on "how" this is a HEMI and not a marketing ploy.... find the magical hemispherical combustion chamber

Do a search for my name and Shelby..and you will most likely come up with a post on him. (I think I posted that here.) He is a self centered egotistical pr!ck. He created ONE or TWO VERY AWSOME cars in the 60's. And thats it! He is a money grubbing dueche bag! How come his shelby series one can't top the performance of the cobra from the 60's? The guy su cks! I hope he goes back to texas and pushes up some daisys where he belongs. He is nothing but bad news for FOMOCO. Ford, if you read this....please don't associate with that fame loving, glory hound loser. He will only hurt your company. Let SVT continue to rock the world with the products that they have been doing. (Also, please bring that prototype Bronco to production, I will buy one tommorow!)

Shelby is the best thing to happen to Ford in a while. Disband SVT and add Shelby to the team whatever it costs!

I agree, Shelby is a legend, maybe you'll be able to get a Shelby Lightning, that wouldn't be so bad.

Has Shelby even designed anything revolutionary since smog laws were passed in the 70s? Everything I've seen with a Shelby sticker on it hasn't really been much in the way of performance or it was vaporware. I tend to wonder if Shelby does any engineering or if they just print stickers.

I say stay away from Shelby. Let him keep selling Prolong

I guess Shelby has more things in the works with Ford. Could this be why our beloved Ls are getting shelved?

I got one thing to say to all you Shelby bashers.YOUR A BUNCH OF MORONS.So you guys all know whats better for ford than they do ,good thing you guys are around or ford might go under without your insight.A couple of cars in the sixties, lets see
289 Cobra
427 Cobra
Daytona Coupe
Sunbeam Tiger
Shelby gt350
Shelby gt500
GT40(Shelby was instrumental in its development)
Those are just some of the cars he built in the sixties,he was a sucessfull GT driver in the fifties winning many driving championships he won Lemans twice. He built a bunch of 4 cyl.fwd cars for chrylser in the eighties that were pretty dam fast for the time and he built the Shelby series 2 in the late ninties with the Olds aurora engine that was an awsome car.He is now Building New 427 Cobras just like the old ones. Not bad for an 82 year old douche bag that has survived a heart transplant.Oh and by the way being the self centered egotist that he is he has raised millions for sick kids through his phillanthropies.Idiots you have no clue what you are talking about.
