Hey gun guys!

Need youre oppinions.I currently own a SIG 220(.45),GLOCK 23(.40),And a GLOCK 27(.40).I'm getting ready to buy another gun for high capacity means only. This will be my range gun.I was thinkin reall hard about a GLOCK 17,which is chambered in 9mm and can have a 17 round magazine plus a spare mag with a +5 extention added on to it.On the other hand I could buy the GLOCK 22 which is chambered for .40 with a 15 round mag and a +4 extention. So the question is this..Do you go with a 9mm with more capacity or the .40 with a little more punch but less capacity?

Heres my current collection.

If you go with the Glock 22, you can use it's higher capacity magazines in your 23 and 27. Since you mentioned it being a range gun, have you considered the Glock 35 practical/tactical 40 caliber? I have a Glock 34, 9mm practical/tactical and love it. The longer barrel and lighter trigger really help at the range.

Considered?Yes,But I would also carry it out on the boat so the added legth doesnt really appeal to me.I forgot about the high cap mags fitting in my other guns thats a plus in my book.I think the whole 9mm thing is what has me confused,I like the stoping power of my 40's and 45 but they are expensive to shoot. And I shoot alot..Every weekend on the boat way offshore weather permiting just to keep them functional and pboblably once a month at a local indoor range.

Go for the more punch. The 9mm is really a rather light load. "Spray and Pray". Get the .40. One good shot and you're through with the threat.

I prefer the .45, but the 40 is a good second.

Have you considered the Beretta 96? I personally prefer it to my Glock 22. There is also the choice of a high cap 1911. All are great guns; I know I own them all, plus some others. My biggest complaints with the Glock are the trigger pull is junk, and the felt recoil is much greater. I am not recoil sensitive so this does not bother me that much, but you feel much more of a snap with the Glock than with the Beretta or 1911. I personally don't think that a 9mm is big enough for "serious social occasions,” the .40 or .45 has much more knock down power. Just my $.02

ahh.....its gonna turn into an age old debate of 9mm vs bigger caliber. 9mm is easy to shoot and cheap to shoot. Most people opt for 9mm cuz its cheap to shoot and they can become proficient with the weapon. Shot placement is more important than caliber any day of the week. Properly placed .22 is better than missing with a .50cal. One good shot from any caliber and your through with the threat and i challenge anyone to get in front even the smallest of loads and prove me wrong.

It sounds like you have made up your mind already Franks, you want something cheap to shoot with hicap. 9mm fits both of those well, especially since you already own two .40s and a .45. I prefer Sig weapons myself but glock has some nice stuff. The fullsize Sig 226 is a nice piece and i own one myself but it is a fullsize firearm. If your looking for something smaller the 239 and 229 are also options. 239 being the smallest.

If you're primarily looking for a range gun, why the concern over high capacity?

I could see the rational for a concealed carry piece. The 9mm is easily more cost efficient at about $10/100. I shoot .45ACP and that runs $20/100 for Winchesters at Wal-Mart.

If you shoot a lot then a 9mm is the way to go cost-wise...

I've got a Glock 17 and I absolutely love it.

Plus, if you shoot a lot you won't spend too much time cleaning a Glock because of their simplicity. Since you've already got a Glock then you already know this.

Yeah,I like the .40's for carry reasons and the .45 is mainly for home protection I just wanted something I could shoot the hell out of and not have to reload 100 times.Plus theres always some GLOCK 18 schematichs floatin around on the internet. .as far as the barreta's Ive looked at them I just cant bring myself to give up on the glocks.I like the SIGS and GLOCK they've been tried and proven. Thanks for all of you imput guys.

How about a Walther P99?

Personally I'm look at either a Sig or a Glock for my range pistol whenever I can get spare funds.

How come no one mentioned this??? If you shoot that much...and the price of round concerns you....why not reload your own .40's? My bud reloads his .45's for competition, and the consistancy is soooo much greater than out of the box loads. I have no say in the choice of guns since I live in MA where only criminals and cops are allowed to carry glocks. I do like my SW99 in .40, but I still prefer revolvers any day! Love my 686 .357 mag with a big 6 inch!!
