Unhappy Ford Drops Lightning from Plans

I'm sure this has already been beaten to death, as news came out over a week ago, but I gotta say I am pretty bummed that Ford is no longer planning to build the next generation Lighting. I had looked forwards to seeing Ford's response to the SRT/10 since Dodge came out with it last year. It looks like to a great extent that Ford has gave up attempting to keep up with Dodge in terms of HP from their most powerful engines in that Dodge now has atleast 45 more HP (claimed) on their top engine available in all models (with Dodge in the process of coming out with a much stronger 400+ HP HEMI) and 120 HP lead when comparing the L to the SRT/10. These are not slight advantages unfortuantely, as Dodge has pretty much taken the title (for a while it appears) when it comes to the most powerful engines available. While the bean counters may disagree, it just doesn't sound like a good plan in an attempt to hold on to or gain market-share with how many truck buyers seeking the most power they can get when purchasing a new truck. Personally, I hope Ford offers both a stronger V8, and resurrects the Lightning at some point in the next few years. With the new 4.6 from the 2005 Mustage GT offering 300HP, Ford should be offering a 250hp+ 4.6, and 325-350 hp 5.4 in the F-150 with the Lightning out as a 'halo' vehicle for the entire line.

"Common sense apparently reigns over in Dearborn, as Ford has decided not to build its next-generation F-150 SVT Lightning pickup truck, in favor of making sure that its next-generation SVT Cobra Mustang, due for the 2007 model year, is as good as it can possibly be. Even though Ford is suggesting that the next Lightning is only postponed, you can bet that it will never see the light of day. We applaud this move - now, if they'd only bring back the SVT Focus..."
