Filled up this morning at Tango for $149
23.78 gallons 90 octane

$6.266/US Gallon

Tango always gives you a discount of 8 eurocents per liter under the regular gasprice.
Regular gasprice at stations is $6.60

$2.95 - 87 octane
$3.15 – 89 octane
$3.35 – 93 octane

A few stations are a nickel higher but this seems to be the average for name brand gas in my area. Wal-Mart (Murphy Oil) is $2.89 for 87

Hey y'all -

Been very busy
A) Running all over (IL, NY, MD, KS, AR, MO, and places much further east)
B) Sort of working (if you can call it that . . . actually it beats working)

Returned to the left coast two days ago. Saw these prices and almost crashed my car. Figured there must be a "bitch about gas" thread here so I looked it up and posted the pic.

Had not logged onto the site for about two months or so I guess.

(I see WMR got a new sig)

Not here long, leaving again Wednesday. Have not been around a computer in so long I almost forgot how to use it. Actually it was rather nice being removed from Lost Angeles and technology. Fortunately I get to be removed again soon.

Y'all take care and stay out of trouble.

Until next time,

I remain,

K-

Wow, you've been a busy fellow!

I got the new sig last week, Vader made it for me since my personal sig maker was missing in action and I had a hankering for a new one.

Stay out of trouble?? Now where's the fun in that??

You be careful running around the country and come back to us safe and in one piece.

Why the differences in full serve, 10 gallon unleaded plus=10 gallon performance plus. I don't see any reason why it would cost more to fill up unleaded plus.

I'm not sure I understand the question, whether it is in regard to the differences in grade of gas or why the difference in self serve vs full serve so I will address both.

In The People's Republic of California, all gas stations are self-serve. In fact, it is very rare (at least in Lost Angeles) to find a station that is full serve. Usually if a station offers full service it is also a station that has a mechanic and garage bays where maintenance service is provided. This is a very rare thing indeed here.

Anyway, stations that offer "full" serve (and I use the term "full" loosely) charge more per gallon supposedly to cover what they pay the attendant who is performing the service. (Here in Lost Angeles, that would be a Mexican illegal alien who is probably being paid below minimum wage, cash under the table, and the 70 cents more a gallon is MUCH more than he makes (ratio-wise his pay vs money earned fromwhat he pumps overall) (Which doesn't matter by the way because they are all going on boycott today, across the nation, hoping we will grant them citizenship as a result of their holding us hostage . . . but that's another story).

By the way, the "full" service is anything but. It means they pump the gas and that's about it. Back in the day, every station used to be full serve (it was illegal to pump your own gas in CA) and they would check the oil, wash the windows, empty the trash in your car if you had any (including your ash tray . . . back when it was legal to smoke in CA) check you wipers if it was rainy season, check the pressure in your tires and anything else that was required. I remember this well because when I was 13, that was my very first job, as a service attendant at the local gas station. Ahh . . . good times.

But I digress.

The differance in grades, at least here in CA is as follows:

There are three grades of gas, each with a different octane level. Each brand has it's own gimicky brand name, in the case of UnoCal 76 here, they call it Unleaded Plus - which is 87 octane,
Performance Plus - which is 89 octane
and High Performance - which is 91 octane

as to why they charge a higher spread/difference between the octane levels, there is no real (or good) reason other than they can (and that people are stupid enough to pay it).

Yeah, that was my question about.
Like I said, 10 gallons of unleaded plus is 10 gallons of performance plus.

I'd have a heart attack paying $4 a gallon. It'd cost me $120 to fill'r up. We're hangin loose around 2.90 regular right now.

It befuttles me as to the huge increases in different octanes as well. I've never seen it stray from 10cent per grade difference more than a couple pennies
