Mark Up on 05 Mustang

I went to my local Ford dealer, which I really dont like after they tried to screw me when I bought my L. The had only 1 new 05 stang there. It was a v6, base price about 20,000. But for some reason they added a 5,000 markup!!

It seems they had a GT that was out for a test drive, and that one was going for 33,000 the saleswoman said.

I told her that they were out of their minds, and that I could get a new cobra for less then that. But that sad thing is people in my town have so much money to throw around that I know they will sell them.

She also said that they will only get a total of 10 in by December and 1 GT40 sometime, that the bidding (she said) is already near 270,000 for.

But I asked her about the Ls, she said none untill 06. I told her I heard maybe never which, of course she hadn't heard yet. But she was one of the more knowledgable salesperson I have talked to before.

Anyway Im just a little suprised by the outragous markup on what is going to be a mass-produced vehicle. Anyone have similar experiances?

Yeah, there is a dealer like that here in Baltimore. I went to the dealer to look at the Mach 1's. They had a 10 - 15k mark up. A dealer a little farther out from the beltway was selling them at a discount. If I had really planned on buying, you know which dealer I would have gone to.

This is because of the 10-20% of the idiot population that have to be the first one in their neighborhood to have the latest model. Just wait until june-july and they will be giving them away. As they are with the old (2004) bodied Mustangs. Anyone who pays near sticker or more for a new vehicle is an idiot.

The total was 26,000 for the v6 and 33.000 for the GT.

I repeat:

Gee, just a little more and you can score a 2000R.... Or a mid-eighties Ferrari GTS....

I'd probably laugh at the sales guy, but in the end, some idiot is going to buy it, and HE'S going to be laughing all the way to the bank...

I went down to one dealer, had a red GT, big crowd around. I saw it pull away on a test drive. Waited around for 15 minutes but it never came back. My friend wants one REAL bad.

While there, I saw a ton of the TBirds, lol, remember how they were selling at outrageous markups for the one that had to get them right away, the dealer's can't give them away now...
