The scary thing is, I would have bought a new Silverado (we get employee pricing through a grandparent) with the 5.3L if it hadn't been for Ford totally redesigning the F-150. So I bought the F-150 instead
I went from a GM to a Ford
I had a 1999 Sierra with the 4.8L, it got the CSK (cold start knock) at about 25,000 I thought I just got a bad one, got rid of that truck for a 2001 Silverado with a 5.3L loved the truck, but it started knocking at 16,000 and even louder and more often then my 1999. So I take it to the dealer and they say "oh that’s normal, they all do that" I said "I don't think so, they may all do it, but this isn't normal!" Did some web searching found www.pistonslap.com and about 3 days of misery and complete sickness I sold it to a wholesaler, and bought my Ford a week later.
My brothers' 2003 Sierra has that problem. It was supposedly fixed after the end of the 2002 model year run. Obviously not. His only has 2x,xxx miles and seems to get louder as time goes by.
