The hunt started off good...then...

It went downhill from there. First group of Dove and on the first shot I take one down. Then I spend 15 Minutes searching through waist high grass, hoping to find the bird not a rattler. As I'm doing this in flys another bunch and I take down another. I spot the area it fell and head that way. Never found it. I figure I'd move to where there's shorter grass. As soon as I started off I wondered off the edge of the field and sink rim deep into the sand. That took me 20 minutes to dig out of. So I head off to the other area and as I'm coming down the road, There are dove flying everywhere and I even flush out a covy of Quail along the road side. I walk around this pond and this dove flys right in front of me and I take it down and it drops into to this thickett of willows. So I head into it and it tries to take flight again and I take it down again and it falls over the otherside of the thickett. So I decide to go straight through instaed of around and as soon as I dive in a wasp nest drops right on my shoulder and I get stung on my forehead ,neck, shoulder and upper back. I never thought I could run so fast. So I finish the morning sitting on the tailgate of my truck moving ice to various parts of my body to get the swelling down until the Benadryl kicked in. Oh Boy, great start to the season.

That's a priceless story, Texford!
Once the wasp stings heal up, you'll even crack up thinking about it. You'll have your buddies laughing every time you recall that.

Hint: It's time to change your quail huntin' spot.

Oh crap! That's good stuff!

Sounds like you need a dog. Then again, no sense putting a good dog through that. JK.

I hope the rest of the season gets better.

BTW, when did dove season start? It doesn't start until this saturday in NC.

Have you ever thought about training a dog to fetch your kills??? I hear some of them are real good at it... Or is fetching your own birds some type of self torture...

...If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all...

LOL, that's so sad.
