That is a great speech! I can even hear it in Arnolds voice too. How can you not love the governator?

the Governator is the man...

those poor democrats, if you contrast their convention compared to this one, they really look like they've lost their sense of direction. I feel sorry for them in a way, I hope the party doesn't fall apart. We need somebody to make fun of..

I love his optimism. I get sick of the doom and gloom crap all the time.

Apparently, some media outlets think it's OK to ctiticize the speeches without actually ever listening to them:

NEW YORK -- Harper's magazine editor Lewis Lapham is being appropriately mocked for a major pre-GOP-convention boner. In the September issue of his magazine, which has been on newsstands for over a week, Lapham writes about the "Republican propaganda mill" and the GOP convention:

"The speeches in Madison Square Garden affirmed the great truths now routinely preached from the pulpits of Fox News and the Wall Street Journal -- government the problem, not the solution; the social contract a dead letter; the free market the answer to every maiden's prayer -- and while listening to the hollow rattle of the rhetorical brass and tin, I remembered the question that [Richard] Hofstadter didn't stay to answer. How did a set of ideas both archaic and bizarre make its way into the center ring of the American political circus?"

That's right, Lapham wrote about the GOP convention speeches before anyone even stepped to the podium. Lapham has apologized for what he's calling a "rhetorical invention," use of "poetic license," and a "mistake."

But the only "mistake" Lapham made is in revealing for all to see what has long been known by anyone who pays attention to the news: the major media routinely bring to their coverage of significant political events a predetermined storyline -- you might want to call it a "Lapham". Facts that undermine the storyline are ignored or explained away as aberrations to The Truth. For the editor of Harper's and other establishment press figures, it really makes no difference to them what will be said at Madison Square Garden because the Laphams are already set, loaded in the scribblers' word processors and television anchor tele-prompters and ready to go.

Wow...since I don't stay up late, I just watched Zell Miller's (D - GA) speech at the GOP convention last night, here on the computer. Man he was fired up and it was fun to watch, if you're interested in politics. In my simple mind, he makes a lot of great points.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."
This quote from alice cooper in the article that lariatf150 provided us is great. Smartest thing I have heard in a long time.

Im not an expert on US politics, however im finding a real difficulty why anyone would vote for bush. The guy is a fundamentalist christian, who has a hard time speaking and writing the english language.

As a rebound on 9/11 he decides to declare a war on all terrorism. Funny as I dont see US carriers on the coast of Ireland or Spain. Then decides that Iraq has wmd from flawed intelligence. Goes to war with the UK, but without Nato??? What is the point of being a Nato partner if one chooses to go it alone?

So a year and half on, 13,000 civillians dead, 800 us troops dead, and around 70 UK troops. No wmds...

Surely that was the reason why we went to war? Therefore the bush administration leaded a nation under false pretences, and some of you guys wish him to lead the next 4 years. I dont understand. The guy is still in power and has not been impeached?

Why the hell were the republicans trying to impeach Bill Clinton for having a blow job from Monica Lewinski, when it is the bush administration that is responsible for thousands of lives lost.

Why isnt Bush impeached?

The oilfields in Iraq are controlled by the US/Iraqi interim government subcontracted to US oil companies eg haliburton. Seems fairly obvious to me this war is about oil.

Peace sells-who's buying?

Saddam could easily have prevented any loss of life...by obeying the terms/conditions he accepted a long time ago. Why would he care though?...after slaughtering thousands of his own people? Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the Iraq war, but everyone and their brother (including the French) thought he had WMD. Chalk that up to a mistake on many people's part. What's done is done and we may as well do the best we can while we're there. Civilian casualties are always kept to a minimum as often as possible. I think if anyone really believes we don't care about civilians or even specifically target them...well, anyone that believes that is being intellectually dishonest...and needs to go live under someone like Saddam Hussein so they can understand what the difference is. Maybe listening to Zell Miller's speech is a good start. He somewhat addresses this issue...liberator vs. occupier. I'm a little tired of the US being blamed as the evil one in this world...more or less because it's led by someone that has a certain faith.

Does anyone also think we could have elected someone like Abraham Lincoln today? Basically an ugly person who doesn't look good on camera, maybe talked a little folksy and so on. I don't care about how Bush speaks. He could do a little better, but it's what in a person's heart that matters to me...what they believe. I think Kerry will say or do anything to get elected. his voting record sucks. He was named the most liberal of all senators recently, because of his record. I don't trust him. Let's just say that. Don't trust him to at least 'try' to do the right thing. It's hard to find a totally honest politician these days. I don't think Bush is a saint, but I trust him much more than Kerry.

P.S. War is never fun. If I have to choose between having someone tell me how to live my life (socialism, communism, marxism, radical enviromentalism, name your 'ism) or fighting a war...I'd take war any day. That's why it's important to keep our country strong, so we don't have to worry about losing our freedoms. To quote one of my other presidents..."From my cold, dead hands" (Charlton Heston) Sound extreme?...no it's not. But people will defend themselves and their freedoms when pushed up against the wall. If it keeps up the way it's going in the US, there's going to be a culture war...and it's not going to be pretty I'm afraid.
