Foyota??
You must be dreaming. My good friend works for Gulf States Toyota, who runs and supplies all Toyota dealers around the Gulf. Toyota is one of the strongest running, and top rated car companies in the world. They might be able to buy out Ford, but not the other way around. I talked with him about this, and he just laughed. Don't get me wrong, I am still a die hard ford fan, but no way in **** is Ford ever going to be able to buy out Toyota. As bad as Ford is suffering, and as well as Toyota is doing, you must be dreaming.
I work for Toyota and there is no way Ford could buy Toyota. Toyota is one of the "richest" liquid cash companies in the world, not company value but company money sitting in a bank.
Dont get me wrong I work for Toyota but I own 4 Fords and a VW.

Ok...wait and see...But you heard it here first!
I could tell you more info and details, but It is all pretty hush hush right now.
BTW, This is not meant to slam Toyota by any means...This is a real inside scoop. Maybe my source was wrong, but I was told Bill Ford will soon be making the deal. Maybe It will just be some sort of merger or joint effort type thing.
You could also be right about Toyota taking over Ford...I was told Bill Ford is really liking the fact that Toyota is non-union..HMmmmm!

Toyota plays down Ford talks
Two of the world's largest car companies, Ford and Toyota, are in discussions to form a partnership designed to cut production costs.
However, the Japanese firm has rejected suggestions that a strategic alliance could be on the cards.
Both companies confirmed that [they] met several times during the past year, although they point out that this was "simply the nature of the automotive business".
Japanese newspapers, though, are reporting that both firms have agreed to set up a team to investigate the chances of a much more wide-ranging tie-up.
Economic pressures
Ford is looking for ways to cut costs
Among the options mentioned are joint technological developments, for example environmentally friendly, low-emission hybrid vehicles.
Ford is also on record of proposing to sell its cars in Japan using Toyota's network of dealerships.
But a Toyota spokeswoman said there was "no factual basis to the reports pointing to talks between Ford and us".
Toyota is Japan's largest car company, and already has a technological partnership with US car giant General Motors. Both firms jointly develop environmentally-friendly car technologies and share a car assembly plant in California.
Ford, meanwhile, has a Japanese subsidiary, Mazda.
The speculation about a tie-up between Ford and Toyota is probably just a sign of the intense economic pressures the world's car industry is facing.
All firms suffer from overcapacity, and have been busy cutting costs and seeking partners to survive in the market place.
Toyota's rival Nissan recently linked up with French car maker Renault, while Mitsubishi struck a deal with DaimlerChrysler, itself the result of a merger.
Both Ford and General Motors recently announced sweeping restructuring plans and job cuts, while South Korean car firm Daewoo is fighting for survival.
Nissan, meanwhile, said on Friday it was considering to move into the rapidly growing market for very small cars, possibly through an alliance with its small rival Suzuki.

As far as your Story Jamie....I have to say, I have my doubts, but I consider you a source of credible info, so we shall see. I wonder what this means for the future of American motor cars? There are only TWO as far as I'm concerned...Ford and Chevy.

The announcement will come in early Sept. It will be a slow process over the next 3 years. There will be Japanese workers coming to Detroit to run some plants and they will be non-union shops. Bill Ford agreed to this to save money and has been having meetings with the head of the UAW about this and has the go ahead!
The only possible situation is that Ford is looking to use Toyota's knowledge on hybrids for there vehicles. At the moment all of Toyota's vehicles, including the Tudnra can be turned into a hybrid, on the exact same platform, at the flip of a switch. There is no denying Toyota makes a superior engine. They are in the works for 2006 to come out with a heavy duty truck, that is suppose to blow the Ford's out of the water, in every category. Ford is struggling with sales, and is a poorly run company, but at least it is American. More than likely this is a mere partnership, or joint venture in the works, not a buy out.

I already said it may be a merger.... Buy-out or Merger..it doesn't matter... The point was Toyota non-union employees will be working in Detroit soon working and building cars under the Ford label!!
If I remember correctly in the '80s the big three started partnering up with the Japanese companies to share technology and as part of the deal they traded shares to be held in the others treasury. That is how the big three wound up owning some Japanese companies.
On the other hand Ford has partnered up with GM to make transmissions, I think. I know they have partnered up. I read something awhile back that Toyota and Ford had also partnered up for the hybrid development. Ford gets hybrids and Toyota get I think fuel cells.
