Back from Alaska

Well guys and gals we finally made it back from Alaska. We started out about 50 miles from the Arctic Ocean in the Brooks Range on the Sheenjek River. I must say what an absolute beautiful place. We rafted and kayaked down about 60 miles stopping for backpacking trips every other day. The fishing was great. I must say arctic graying are some very strong fish. The weather was awesome, lows in the 50's and high's in the 70's. Can you say sun and wind burn !!!!!! I'll post some pics very soon.

For those of you that wish to travel into the great outdoors I highly encourage visiting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It was a trip of a lifetime !!!

I AM GOING TO FLIP MY LID! ! ! ! Why is everyone but me going to Alaska??? I am definately going next year, I'd like to know all about your trip. I am assuming yall went with a guide? I can't wait to see your pictures! How many people were in the group?

Since you've posted this, I have already bookmarked 3 sites on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Man, I am fired up! I have been wanting to do a trip like that for about 10 years now. I'd like to go with my dad before he gets too old to do it.

Tuff,

We had eight in our group along with 2 guides. The oldest being 60 and the youngest being 24. It was a 9 day trip.
We took two jets, a 10 seat turbo prop, and a cessna 185 four seater to get there. About 10 to 11 hours of travel time. ie sore butt.... If you want to email me I can send you the name of the outfitter. They were awesome !

I'm next in line to go up to a jobsite that we have up there (as it didn't work out for me to go this past time because of my wife... another story, another day).

I can't wait to get up there. Our jobsite requires a float plane trip over... all of our equipment will have to be barged out to us.

I have heard of it...Isn't it waaaaaay out on one of the little islands? I forgot how/when/where I read about it. Isn't it an old military base and like 10 square miles or something? If that's what you're talking about, I think it would be cool to go to for about a DAY. I want to do exactly what SEU1 did.

SEU1-

I got your pix...man, more than I expected. I'd like to see all of them! Are you going to put them on a website? I'd be more than willing to send you a couple of bucks and a CD if you can put them on it. I've been looking at their website and their schedule of trips...which one did you go on? I didn't see one for the Sheenjek River...did yall do a custom trip? I feel like a kid on Christmas morning! I aint gettin' nuthin' done at work this afternoon now! (not like I would have anyway)

Sounds like you had a great time. Can't wait to see your pictures, farthest north we've been is to Fairbanks. Isn't camping weird when it doesn't get dark??!!

Tuff,

Our outfittter didn't place place the Sheenjek trip on his itinerary this year because we already had it booked. The trip had been planned for a little over a year. I'm not going to post the pic's up on a web site as of yet do to lack of time but, I would be more than happy to send you a CD. Just float me your address to my email account and burn you a copy. The pictures don't do it justice.. You could see for miles and miles..... This lasn makes you feel very small, and I've been to a ton of places. If you float the outfitter an email I'm sure he would be more than happy to send you stuff. He's a really good guy. Tell him Kristi and Scott said hi !

Wild-mtn-rose,

If that was back yard I would be in it all the time. 24 hours of daylight is cool. Nothing like fishing at 2:00 am in the morning !
WAY COOL !!!!

It's one of the things I absolutely love about living here. Step outside at 3am and its daylight and everything is quiet, there's just nothing like it!

You know you're Alaskan if....You have learned to never say to your kids "Be home by dark"!!
