Second car question/poll/thoughts

OK I got a question that I'll post to you guys and gals. In a year or two I want to get a second car, strictly for fun, street legal, tinker with, slap on some mods and show at local car shows for fun. You'll understand why I'm posting this in a truck forum. I want just your honest answers and thoughts. If I post this is an individual car forum they'll all pick whatever car the forum is for. I love American muscle; it's just my choice. Some imports are really nice but and keep this in mind, I'm 6'6 and don't fit into most import sport cars. Back I my youth I had a 1992 Mustang that I loved! It was my baby and everyone knew it. I loved the car. But in 93 they made the last of the model that I fit in. Here's what I am at so far as choices.
- 1993 Mustang Cobra
- 1998 - 2000 Trans Am WS6
- 1990 - 1994 Corvette
- Starting to like the 1998-2000 Camaro Z28's

I picked certain years due to price tag and for the Mustang that's the last year I fit in them. What are y'all thoughts and any other ideas? My price tag will be around $10 - $14,000. I know the 2000's will be more but remember this will be in a year or a little longer and I could stretch it for the right car.

I agree you'll get more joy from something in the Sixties.
There is a '68 Pontiac GTO for sale, I see on my way home from work each day. I haven't stopped to look at it yet but, today I will.

I would love something older but I don’t have enough tools and know how to maintain one. They take a little more TLC than I can provide I think. Also I meet a very nice guy at a car show that had my dream, a 1967 Shelby 350 GT. I asked him if I could sit in it. He let me and I couldn't get around that big @ss steering wheel. It was real tight in there.

i have a 70 elcamino with a big block. less $$ than a chevelle. not too many around so very different. you can get a newer one for a song.

i do like your trans-am WS6 choice though... awesome cars. can be made to run very very fast with some very simple and cheap upgrades. nice choice.

one last choice 69-73 plymouth duster. very cool. pretty cheap. not too many around.

just my 2 cents.

For the kind of money you're talking about, you can buy a nice 60's car and some tools. Go with a LeMans instead of a GTO, or like was mentioned, an ElCamino instead of a Chevelle. You get a lot more bang for the buck. When anything from the 90's breaks, especially the Vette, you'll be paying big time to fix it if you can't do it your self.

You may want to consider;
*'65-'72 Cutlasses
*'68-'69 AMXs
*'66-'67 Fairlanes
*'68-'70 Belvederes
...all easy to work on.
If you look hard enough, you might even find an Avanti.

check on part availability before you buy anything. i can get parts for my camino all over the place.... used or repo

AMXs are cool (guy at work has one) but the parts are outrageous. he paid like $1500 for a radiator!!! hard to find as well.

that's why i mentioned the duster too. parts very cheap and plentiful. older cars are easier to work on too. 6 years ago when i got my camino i could change the oil and that was about it. each time i did a project i included the tools i need into the project price. just did my water pump and finally got a nice torque wrench. this is a good way to "collect" tools. get tham as you need them. heck now that i have a few projects under my belt i am thinking of others (shocks, exhaust, interior).... make it fun.

also get a good service manual. they have good instructions.
