Trying to dicide what to do?
Thanks..
Thanks for posting the photo. I would say I was upwards of 55-60 when I hit him. I has the cruise set on 65... it all happened so fast. Everything is smooth and then all of a sudden some MORON is stopping or maybe even stopped in the middle of the fast lane. I'm sure I had my brake smash through the floorboard trying to stop, but it was simply too late. I'm not an enginner either. I'm simply passing on the info passed on by guys who see this stiff on a daily bases. Everyone who looked at the vehicle stated the airbags did not do their job. You hear about 5 mph finder binders in the parking lot. Those airbags go off and usually cause injury that should not of happened. My collision was severe and they should of gone off. Part of the frame is exposed and twisted in the front. I'm not sure if you can see it?

There is NO WAY you tagged him at 50-60mph. Why? Your truck would need about 200ft to come to a complete hault from 65mph loaded with your crew & gear. You saw the car, jammed on the brakes, knew you were gonna hit, and tried to avoid him. That's a lot of time, and a lot of stopping... I'd say you tagged him at 30MPH or less. Thus, a classified low-speed collision and air-bags will more than likely NOT be deployed.
Again, safe family = it worked.

I hear you, but.....
I hear you, but don't agree. As mentioned prior... the CHP officer witnessed it and stated he thought people would be flying out of the windows. The Bronco spun several times before coming to rest. The officer stated he thought the Bronco was going to go airborn. When we both came to a stop... I was at least 300 yards farther down the freeway. I can send a photo where you can see how far back the Bronco was. Again.... it happened very quickly, but I was going 65-70 and wham there was a vehicle stopping or stopped in the middle of the road. I know I was on the brakes, but it was only a matter of seconds before we made contact. We'll have to wait and see the report.
I guess we'll agree to disagree!
I think every car should have one of these: http://www.drivecam.com/
Fraud goes down, and the people really at fault get it stuck to them.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate the feedback. Because the other guy is a Moron and doesn't have a license or insurance... we'll all be paying for his dumbA$$. I requested he be given a breath test, but I'm not sure if it was done.
Oh one other thing. Someone mentioned if I have uninsured coverage I could claim the rental car under it. I do have the coverage, but it does NOT cover rental. I checked and SF says "NO WAY JOSE"

Does CA not offer Uninsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage? Some states don't, but most do. If they do, you should be able to claim your rental there.

The first '100' means that you have $100,000 of coverage for bodily injury caused by an uninsured motorist per person.
The '300' means that the max your policy will pay per accident is $300,000.
The last '100' (and this is the 100 I was talking about) means that the max your policy will pay for property damage caused by an uninsured motorist is $100,000. This is where you could get your rental.
Apparently, CA is not a state that honors UM PD (Uninsured Motorist Property Damage), therefore you revert to your own collision coverage for the damage to the truck, and your rental coverage (which you don't have) for a rental vehicle.
Your UM coverage will just have two numbers listed (i.e. 100/300) rather than the 3 like above.
I would like to interject a few things here:
I am glad you and your family are O.K.
I am glad you have State Farm. I have had them for a very long time and they are great and will take care of you.
It looks to me that the Air Bags should have deployed. However they are activated by decelorometer (sp?) and since you stated that you went 300+/- yards before coming to a stop I would make the assumption that you didn't stop fast enough or hit sharply enough to cause the bags to fire.
It's a good thing they didn't fire because I bet you were working the steering wheel to get around said dumb a$$.
The reason I say this is that my wife and 4 year old girl were on a 50mph 2 lane when an-I'm the only one on the planet-old lady pulled out in 1st gear at 10mph and when my wife swerved to miss the lady she hit a rock on the side of the road while she was trying to turn back onto the road her air bag (2n gen air bag at that) came out and blew her forearm into 15 pieces. she goes into have a 2nd surgery done next week to have the 16 screws and two plates removed.
Tuff Ford the only thing I would suggest you DO push on people is to get their PIP way up!

An good auto policy can, and should, cover WAAAAY more than just the vehicle.
Heritage?
A couple people have mentioned the Heritage is an option. Can someone tell me what this is? If I had to guess it would be something between the 2003 & 2004 model design. I'm 90% sure I'll end up with another F-150 SuperCrew 4x4, but don't know what year. I still haven't decided if I like the new 2004. The interior looks awesome and I've heard their very quite inside, but the boxy outside will take some getting used to. Also I've always had a rule I wouldn't buy a vehicle that is new for that year. For example I think Ford will find things that ca be improved on the 2004... being as it's brand new for 2004. I think a 2005 would be a great choice. Any idea when the 2005 trucks will hit the lots? I've read allot of good things about the new Nissan Titan, but again it's a new truck for 2004. Shoot, if State Farm screws me, I might have to buy a used Dodge. GOD FORBID!!
Here in MD PIP minimum is only $2500.00 which didn't even cover the ambulance ride and 20 min at the first ER. (Long story)
The "heritage" is a 2004 old style. It is not an option nor a special edition. Ford didn't want to make it's most valuable truck customers mad so what they decided to do was for the first year of the new body style-2004-they would also offer the old style as a "heritage 2004" when the 2005's come out the heritage will be gone.
later-

Does the Heritage come?
Does the 2004 Heritage come with the improved 5.4? I know the newly designed 2004 has several new features. New spark plug design, quiet steel, new interior design etc etc...
Thank you
Thank you
SuperCrew...
I think I looked at a Heritage or two prior to buying my 2002 F-150. For some reason I don't think the Heritage came in the SuperCrew or maybe that dealer simply didn't have any. I'd like all the new features in the 2003 body style. That would be cool.

Thank God everyone is OK. Hope everything gets settled in your favor!
