Question for AOL users/got problems

OK, I know that AOL is soundly hated by most on this board but I have had it since forever and most everything I do is linked to that provider.

Problem is as follows: I upgraded to AOL 9.0 plus/plus about a week ago. Ever since then, AOL or it may be Microsoft, automatically starts AOL several times a day. This plays havoc with my wife, myself and our employees as we all access AOL during the day or night and of course we are blocked because it is "on" on my home office PC. Of course now I turn my home office PC off when I am not using it but that is a PITA.

Second problem is that in spite of my having set my preferences to "no pop-ups" from anywhere through AOL, I now get two, both sent by MSN, every time I visit any website. Note here that they are not the pop ups that you normally get from whatever website, they are usually a set of two that changes from day to day and are definitely from MSN.

So far, the AOL tech help website has been of "no help".

Any of you guys/girls out there know how I can get rid of these problems?

Bill

Then, maybe people will realize you like AOL and you aren't changing.

Then, maybe they'll answer the question at hand!

FYI- I have no idea (who'dda thunk it?)

Lees99fi50:

I just dumped the advanced 9.0 and went back to first version.
Let's see if that worked over tonight.

As to another ISP, I have thousands of sites bookmarked, thousands of business cards all over the world with my AOL addie and a bunch of other stuff that would make it very difficult if not impossible to go to another provider.

I do have accounts with Bell South, MSN and Dell but only use them in an emergency. None of them are as content rich as AOL even if AOL does have issues occasionally.

Thanks, Lee for the tip, hope it works.

I have no idea how AOL works but you might want to try downloading Ad Aware and running it to see what is on your machine. With internet explorer you can get programs installed that you dont even know about that log what you do on your computer and also are a major cause of pop ups. I run it periodically and the amount of pop ups is greatly reduced. Just a thought...

Bill, you could make a backup of your email & important sites & reinstall AOL using the latest version...
Or better yet, you can reformat the PC if it's been a while since it's been done..

another thing, if you were to ever change from AOL to another ISP, you can have AOL forward your email to another address. (for a small fee i bet)

btw, how did that scanner work out that you bought?
