Mathematical question...racing.

Okay...let's see how good you are. I know we have math wizzes on here somewhere.

Info:
For every mph we travel, we cover a distance of approx. 1.4666 feet per second. For example at 70mph I would be traveling at 102.62 feet per second.

So, here is the equation.

If I pass the 1/8 mile marker (660feet) in 10.0 seconds at 70mph and I accelerate at that point forward at a rate of 3 seconds per 10mph, what will my time and mph be at the 1/4 mile marker (1320feet)?

Any takers?

Even though I made the equation I am not totally sure as I havent fully broke it down. But, just a rounded guess I come up with 15.4**@88.** mph.

Reason being is that I would accelerate at a rate of 3.33mph per sec. So, at 15.0 seconds flat that puts me at 86.65mph and 1246.55 feet. I need to get to 1320feet, that leaves 74feet to go. So, at that speed I am covering 127.08 feet per sec. So, I guess somewhere in the realm of 15.4@88mph. I could be wrong.

Are you talking about the 5.4L and your truck?

Is your question, I ran the 1/8th what would my 1/4 be?

Sort of yes. But mostly for fun. I did run the 1/4 but I dont have the timeslip anymore. I averaged 10.0 @70mph bone stock and a best of 9.95@71mph on a cool day with an exhaust. I do have the timeslips for the 1/8th. My friend doesnt believe I ran a 14.99@89mph 1/4 in my truck on the same day I ran the 9.95@71mph 1/8. He was however, there for the 10.0 sec runs and I am trying to guess what my 1/4 mile times would have been on those 10.0 runs. Also, I am guessing based on my view of the speedometer that I am accelerating at approx 3 seconds per 10mph at that point.

The 5.4L has plenty of torque for the front end.
The problem is it runs out of ponies (260) after the 1/8th.
The Ford gets 'reeled' in by the less torque/more horsepower competition.

I think your friend will never believe 15.0 seconds for the truck with just an exhaust without a timeslip.

Actually I have the new 04 5.4L 3 valve which has 300hp and 365lb ft of torque. It is also a Regular Cab Short Bed 4x2 w/ a 3.73 Limited Slip diff.
