Control Room: An inside look at Al Jazeera
Control Room: An inside look at Al Jazeera
Someone told me about this today, a film about the inside workiongs of Al Jazeera... Note I have not seen this "film" but I've read some about it and a bunch of reviews and this is interesting if nothing else. I don't need someone to tell me that our news outlets are a bunch of ridiculous spin docotrs with a big agenda, but Al Jazerra as the mouthpiece of democracy... Take this with a grain (at least) of salt, but it should make for interesting discussion. Anyone actually see this "film"?
Anyway here is a brief sunopsis of Control Room that I found (http://www.movienet.com/controlroom.html)
Is America radicalizing or stabilizing the Arab world? Award-winning filmmaker Jehane Noujaim (Startup.com) provides a balanced view of Al-Jazeera's presentation of the second Iraq war, and in so doing calls into question many of the prevailing images and positions offered up by the U.S. news media. The film's view inside Al-Jazeera—a network branded "Osama bin Laden's mouthpiece" and subject of intense criticism from U.S. administration officials—suggests that its views on news reportage might actually be more in tune with democratic ideals than those of its Western counterparts.
